The Greater China Strategy & Business Development department (SBD) is part of the Sanofi Partnering organization, a Global Funciton within the Sanofi Group. The mission of SBD is to facilitate and implement the Group’s China Strategy development to maximize China’s potential of being both a market destination and source of innovation; and to execute external growth opportunities to achieve a leading position in China by 2030.\
The Sr. Director, Search & Evaluation, China will work closely with Greater China Strategy & BD Head, the BD teams both in China and ex-China, especially with the Search & Evaluation teams in the US/EU, and R&D teams to identify, screen, evaluate and operationalize new growth opportunities from the in-Global for China, and from in-China for Global.

Main Responsibilities:
Lead in-global for China Search & Evluation of US/EU innovative assets to support the sustainable business growth across divisions (General Medicines, Specialty Care) in China.
The scope of the Search is clinical stage and covering multiple therapeutic areas including immunology, oncology, cardiovascular, metabolic, transplantation, and other opportunistic areas that align with China portfolio strategy.
The technical assessment will be led by the individual by tapping into the local and global cross-functional expertise within and outside of the Partnering organisation: in-depth technical evaluation with R&D and other appropriate stakeholders, and commercial evaluation with the China teams.
Lead in-China for global Search & Evaluation of China innovative assets and identify those that meet global criteria and needs to maintain and expand a competitive portfolio of projects or technologies.
In this case the scope is throughout the product life cycle and the therapeutic areas encompassing all TAs of global strategic interests.
The technical assessment is coordinated by the individual with global R&D and S&E participations.
Externally, this position will serve as the S&E lead in the US for China, can represent China’s needs and capabilities, and will coordinate with the US/EU S&E teams, to ensure a seamless interaction with the external parteners.
Internally, this position will serve as the China team conduit in the US, and the US team’s conduit for China. He/she will work closely and coordinate across TAs with the S&E teams in the US/EU, to ensure: (i) The external engagement with biotechs is coherent and coordinated representing One Sanofi; (ii) the innovative opportunities from China are captured systematically, timely, and receive global team’s appropriate attention; (iii) The opportunities for China identified across TAs are properly and timely transfered to the China team for further review and follow-up.
The individual will ensure high quality project leadership and management from project initiation to internal governance and manage the overall interface to corporate level governance.
He/she will also align resources and decision making throughout the deal process in collaboration with China and global BD teams, and where appropriate, lead the BD transactions from the US. Maintain key external relationships while identifying new potential partners within the responsible areas; Track and communicate ongoing industry developments and stay up-to-date on the competitive environment in China and ex China Promote better understanding of the China business and innovation
While the position holder may focus on External Innovation, the intent is not to define it specifically, as the role may encompass a more comprehensive set of responsibilities including negotiation and transaction, and due diligence. The successful candidate in the position will have the opportunity to very quickly adapt to dynamic responsibilities. Moderate international travel is expected.
About You
Qualifications
Degree qualifications in a healthcare related discipline, PhD preferred
Extensive clinical development and/or scientific experience, preferably obtained through >15 year experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech/healthcare industry. Outstanding scientific excellence in biology, discovery and development is a strong plus.
Ability to effectively engage with senior management and corporate governance. Ability to develop and present compelling business cases for attractive assets.
Successful track record in external R&D, partnering and/or business development. Excellent track record of identifying, implementing and managing novel partnering opportunities.
Understanding of deal structuring, financial modeling and valuation
Excellent project management and analytical skills, with experience in an environment requiring significant data analysis and cross-functional interaction.
Strategic thinking in combination with understanding science and technologies and their impact on the overall business.
Excellent networking ability in cross-cultural environment inside and outside Sanofi. Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation skills. Promote cross functional collaboration, particularly with the External Innovation teams located outside of China to ensure alignment and support.
Negotiation skills across all levels of the organization and with external parties.
Performance- and achievement–oriented with excellent project management skills; able to work to agreed timelines and a focus on execution and implementation.
Excellent problem-solving, conflict-resolution and decision-making skills. Result and quality oriented: able to analyze inputs from all involved departments, to identify the impact, draw conclusions, to set direction and define appropriate actions.
Ability to represent the company in external scientific/academic world and to act as an ambassador for Sanofi.
Internal candidates must bring a well-developed internal network and strong understanding of internal dynamics and decision-making to the table with experience working closely with other functions such as R&D, Medical, Finance and Legal is highly desirable
