GENERAL FUNCTION

The Senior Director of Customs and Compliance will lead the customs and trade compliance function across North America (U.S., Mexico, and Canada). This executive will ensure that the company meets all regulatory requirements for importing and exporting goods across these regions, while optimizing customs processes, training and mitigating risks, as well as overseeing audits, risk assessment and investigation. The ideal candidate will possess extensive international experience, have a deep understanding of customs and trade laws in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, and demonstrate the ability to manage complex teams and multiple product categories.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership & Compliance

Develop and implement a North America-wide trade compliance strategy aligned with global policies. Lead U.S., Mexico, and Canada teams to ensure compliance with laws, trade agreements (USMCA, C-TPAT), and risk mitigation. Communicate regulatory updates, maintain internal controls, and oversee audits and risk assessments.

Regulatory & Program Management

Ensure compliance with customs regulations, including classification, valuation, origin, and FTZ. Develop industry-specific compliance programs covering anti-dumping, export controls, and IP protection.

Operational Efficiency

Oversee customs operations for timely, cost-effective clearance, leveraging technology for improvements. Define KPIs and drive performance enhancements with business intelligence teams.

Risk Management

Conduct risk assessments, implement corrective actions, and automate compliance via GTMS.

Collaboration & Training

Align compliance with business goals, working cross-functionally with legal, finance, and logistics. Engage with customs authorities and consultants while training staff on compliance best practices.

Core Activities

Ensure accurate declarations, duty payments, and timely documentation while maintaining required records and permits.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's in International Trade, Law, or Logistics (Master’s preferred). 15+ years in international trade & customs compliance (North America focus). Proven leadership of 15+ member teams. Expertise in customs laws, trade agreements (USMCA), & export controls. Experience in brokerage, classification, valuation, & duty drawback. Strong analytical, problem-solving, & risk mitigation skills. Excellent communication & stakeholder management. Ability to work independently & cross-functionally. Familiarity with customs compliance software & data analytics preferred. English & Spanish fluency preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Global operations experience in multinational organizations Knowledge of C-TPAT, AEO, and customs security programs Expertise in trade remedies and FTAs/rules of origin

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

20~30% travel within North America may be required.

Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills and local minimum wage requirements.
