Your Role at Baxter
The Senior Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation and administration of all applicable health and safety programs consistent with Baxter EHS requirements. The role is responsible for EHS activities associated with office, warehouse and manufacturing operations to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local regulations. The Sr. EHS Specialist works with the Sr. EHS Manager to set targets and objectives for the site’s health and safety programs; consistent with regulatory changes and corporate direction utilizing a risk-based approach.
What you'll be doing
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including operation managers to ensure best in class EHS principles and safety programs are developed and integrated into operational and decision-making processes
Collaborate with our operation teams and safety contacts to develop and implement proactive strategies to prevent work related injures
Leads or participates in incident investigations (injury, property damage, near-hit, etc.) and root cause analysis, and works with the plant operations team to determine appropriate corrective/preventative action.
Perform risk and hazard assessments/inspections to determine employee risk/exposure and suggest/drive actions to mitigate/reduce them.
Establish and drive continuous improvement in the facility's safety monitoring and recordkeeping systems to ensure compliance with all Baxter policies and federal/state/local regulatory requirements.
Develop action plans for safety activities, coordinate the plant Safety Committee team, perform follow-up on these activities, and report status to the Sr. EHS Manager.
Facilitate health and safety training for all plant personnel.
Provide facility representation during various EHS audits that includes outside agency inquiries and/or inspections.
Perform various ISO Audit requirements to earn and maintain ISO Certification for 14001 and 4500
Flexibility to occasionally work scheduled hours outside of the normally assigned schedule
What you'll bring
Bachelor’s Degree (Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Engineering) plus 5+ years of EHS related experience.
Certified Safety Professional (Board of Certified Safety Professionals) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (American Board of Certified Industrial Hygienist) is preferred, but not required.
Specific subject matter expertise in Machine Guarding, LOTO, Minor Servicing, Ergonomics, Fire safety, and Powered Industrial Trucks
Experience in plating, fabrication, painting, and welding operations
Proven success with implementation of strategic EHS management systems (ISO 14001 and 45001) in a Union manufacturing environment a plus.
Facilitating regulatory compliance activities; coordinate work efforts and recordkeeping related to chemical exposure monitoring (industrial hygiene), confined spaces, electrical safety, emergency action planning, equipment safety (machine guarding), LOTO/minor servicing, fire prevention, chemical hygiene / lab safety, and contractor safety.
Conducting risk assessments on processes, equipment, and chemicals; identify compliance concerns, program non-conformities and opportunities for improvement
Conducting EHS audits, self-assessments, and inspections to ensure workplace conditions comply with internal policies, program requirements and applicable local, state, and national regulations
Leading incident investigations, root cause analysis and after-action reviews; collaborate with process owners to develop and implement corrective actions and engineering controls as needed
Ability to build teams throughout all levels and functions of the Site
Must be capable of making well-informed decisions in both routine and emergency situations.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are required along with the ability to communicate with audiences that have a broad range of background and understanding.
We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonus.
