POSITION SUMMARY:                                  

The Sr. Field Applications Engineer is responsible for providing the sales account team, the corporate product marketing and engineering teams, and customers with technical support in the field necessary to properly develop, apply, and operate AE products. The position is an integral part of AE's efforts to develop and execute plans to secure and defend customer design wins which underpin AE's corporate objectives and is considered a part of the Key Account Management Team. As a result of the position's extensive and constant engagement with customers, it is also responsible for increasing the number and depth of AE relationships with customers, and for gathering, understanding, and reporting intelligence from the field concerning industry, customer, and competitive trends and developments. This role will primarily support one of AE’s key accounts.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Generate new business (Design Wins): Work with key customer contacts and AE account managers/directors, product managers, and engineers to identify and understand new opportunities, and successfully promote, apply, operate, release, and support all AE brands & products for such opportunities in a manner consistent with AE corporate objectives Defend current business: Work with key customer contacts and AE account managers/directors, product managers, engineers, customer support staff, and quality staff to proactively support AE's existing business in a manner consistent with AE corporate objectives Build critical relationships: Demonstrate constant focus on and investment in building strong relationships with key contacts within customer accounts and with AE colleagues that are based upon mutual trust and a respect for the mutual value that is produced; always strive to build and defend a productive and rewarding team-environment. Routinely leverage these strong relationships to resolve significant matters and determine strategic direction Liaise technically: Based upon your day-to-day engagement with AE's customers, products, and applications, act as proactive technical liaison among our OEM customers, end-user customers, and other AE personnel as required in a manner consistent with AE corporate objectives and mission statement. Work directly with customers to understand equipment/system requirements and ensure the best solution for the application(s) and customers’ overall business needs. “Speak the customers’ language.” Gather information: Search for, gather, understand, and communicate to appropriate personnel information relative to customer, industry, application, and competitor trends, developments, and roadmaps which has potentially substantive value to AE's ability to reach our corporate objectives Provide training and troubleshooting: Provide technical product and application training to customers and AE colleagues as needed to demonstrate/promote/optimize the use of AE products and to evaluate customer needs. As required, provide troubleshooting services to understand, address, and communicate product related issues Share experience and expertise: As a senior team member, mentor and train colleagues to develop the AE team and better support our customers. Communicate effectively and efficiently: Understand your audience to communicate information in a digestible manner while getting key points across. Frequent contacts include customers, end-users, and AE colleagues with varying degrees of technical background and training.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is based in the Milpitas, CA office. Approximately 70% of time in laboratory/clean room environments at local customers and AE working with typical diagnostic equipment, computer technology, and customer tools; approximately 30% of time in typical sales office environment using standard office equipment.  Some travel out of the local region required—approximately 20% of time

 

EXPERIENCE:                                              

Essential:

More than 5 years of experience in semiconductor/thin film industry or more than 7 years of experience in related technical field Working knowledge of thin film industry (e.g., semiconductor, data storage, display/flat panel, advanced coatings) Knowledge in vacuum science, RF power/match networks, and/or plasma processing equipment and applications Experience with: Computer-driven diagnostic equipment; graphing and analysis of data sets (e.g., CSV files) using Excel or other software Technical consultation for development projects with customers; hands-on technical troubleshooting; operation of sampling and real-time oscilloscopes, waveform generators, spectrum and network analyzers, power supplies, multimeters, RF and DC fixturing for power supply characterization Intricate knowledge of wafer fabrication equipment used in semiconductor manufacturing

 

Desirable:

Experience with products competitive to AE’s Specific knowledge of and experience with key customers, their equipment, and applications Product troubleshooting to board level Experience working with firmware/software Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., SEMI, IEC standards) and protocols (e.g., Ethernet, EtherCAT, RS-232) MATLAB, Python, or other scripting experience or programming experience Specialized experience as applicable to AE’s products (e.g., temperature sensing, RF measurement, power transmission, ESC/E-chucks, RPS, etch/deposition processes)

 

EDUCATION:                                                                                    

Essential: Bachelor’s degree in a science/engineering/technical field or demonstrated industry experience Desirable: Advanced science/engineering/technical degree, but not required

 

COMPENSATION:                            

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting.  Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.  The range of starting pay for this role is $130,000 to $170,000 per year. Additionally, this position is eligible for the Sales Incentive Plan with a specific target amount to be determined based on the role.
