Position Title: Sr. Financial Analyst Oncology Clinical Research

Position Type: Full Time, Exempt

Position Purpose:

The Clinical Research Financial Analyst is the primary contact to support the Holy Cross Hospital clinical research department and internal and external vendors with fiscal and administrative management of clinical trials adhering to local and federal guidelines and regulations. The financial analyst initiates, analyzes, develops, and negotiates on behalf of the HCH research department for all financial agreements and contracts including but not limited to budgets, revenue, invoicing, and coverage analysis. This position ensures the accurate and timely payment management to accounts receivable and accounts payable and facilitates the collaboration between research coordinators, billing representatives, principal investigators, and industry sponsors as specified in clinical trial budgets and agreements. This position is a leader in department financial initiatives while supporting the mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

The Sr. Financial Analyst Oncology Research in collaboration with the research team, leads and coordinates the handling of clinical research billing compliance in accordance with clinical, ethical, and regulatory standards. Establishes appropriate research billing data collection systems and procedures, according to pre-established research protocol, study budget and contract. Monitors and records patient billing information into EPIC EMR and communicates information to investigators and coordinators as appropriate. Reviews financial reports to identify deficiencies and corrects deficiencies with staff assistance. Reviews new and amended clinical trial protocols, contracts, informed consent forms, manuals, and other research related documents for financial feasibility, budget and coverage analysis development, and negotiation. Collaborates with Holy Cross research team, pharmacy, institutional review board (IRB), and internal and external billing staff to review study protocol, contracts, and EPIC clinical research charges to ensure fees and billing procedures are appropriate. Performs initial and ongoing financial analyses following local and national regulations. Facilitates initial and ongoing negotiations regarding coverage analyses and budget agreements following local and national Medicare regulations. Prepares and presents monthly, quarterly, and/or annual department financial review to Holy Cross executive team. Identifies trends in financial performance and provides variance explanations and recommendation for improvement.

Minimum Education or Certification

Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of Finance, as normally obtained through a bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting or a related field, and 5 years of accounts payable/receivable and budgeting experience.  Related additional experience of 4-6 years may be substituted for bachelor’s degree.

       

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

Experience with budgeting and budget negotiation and proficiency in accounts receivable processes and procedures required.

Hospital or clinical research related account receivable/payable experience strongly preferred. Experience in Oncology preferred.

Experience with Medicare/Medicaid billing strongly preferred. Maintains familiarity with current regulations involved with compliant billing practices.

Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary in dealing with a variety of healthcare and finance professionals including senior management staff.

Ability to accurately collect and record clinical information from the medical record efficiently; to organize data in computer program for report generation. Ability to assess and evaluate complex financial data via use of computer analysis.

Ability to coordinate the activities of a multidisciplinary research team including physicians along with the ability to maintain patient confidentiality.

Proficient organization and problem-solving skills are required to develop/implement efficient work processes. Ability to work independently in a matrix work environment.

Expert knowledge of spreadsheets (i.e. Microsoft Excel), databases (i.e., DBASE, Microsoft Access), word processing programs (i.e., Microsoft Word), and graphic/specialty and other finance-related software programs.

Reports To: Director, Clinical Research/Cancer Research

Pay Range: $32.12-48.18

Pay is based on experience, skills and education.  Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
