Sr. Functional Safety Engineer

Role Summary As Sr. Functional Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for performing the vehicle level functional safety analysis and consulting on all aspects of the feature decomposition and execution throughout the lifecycle. In order to do this, you will work closely with the departmental functional safety engineering resources to ensure compliance throughout the lifecycle. You will also collaborate closely with technical teams to provide technical guidance, consult and independent peer review of architecture, systems, components and software. Responsibilities Contribute to feature requirements and provide functional safety guidance on feature definition Perform vehicle level HARA and generate safety goals, perform safety analyses such as DFMEA and FTA analysis, and develop safety requirements using the company’s requirements tool Champion and develop safety mechanisms such as redundancy, degradation, warnings, diagnostics, and fail-safe strategies in E/E architecture designs. Develop test cases to verify and validate safety mechanisms on LabCar and Vehicle test assets. Perform data analysis on test data and provide technical recommendations to functional safety engineering teams. Optimize FuSa activities for efficiency and automation to demonstrate requirement coverage. Represent the functional safety team as a single point of contact, working alongside the engineering departments to provide technical guidance, review, and approval as part of internal and external development activities Collaborate closely with Systems, Hardware and Software teams to achieve system safety objectives and deliver robust solutions. Qualifications 5+ years of experience within the automotive industry (or equivalent), ideally OEM or Tier 1 working within functional safety Degree education in Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical (or similar) Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of integrity Experience working within a cross-functional team Ability to report to senior management and report accurate information in a clear and concise manner Proven knowledge of ISO 26262 and experience applying within an OEM or Tier 1 Good understanding of vehicle electronic system functionality and electro/mechanical control strategy Proficient in diagnostic tools, CAN/LIN bus protocols, and vector tools (CANoe, CANalyzer) Experience in Vehicle/LabCar/HIL testing environments for systems verification and validation Pay Disclosure Salary Range for Irvine, California Based Applicants: $135,100 - $168,900 per year (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law). Salary Range for Palo Alto, California Based Applicants: $146,900 - $183,600 per year (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
