Illinois American Water is seeking a safety role model to join our team and support our operations in Godfrey, IL. The Sr. Health and Safety Specialist will be a key role in driving the company's vision and compliance goals. You will partner with our operations and perform training, coaching, incident investigations, root cause analysis, as well as oversee our health and safety programs. Our ideal candidate will be adaptable, have strong communication skills, and be a safety leader. 

 

 

Position Details

Posted Range: $59,280/annually-$99,060/annually. 

 

The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. Primary Role

Assist the Health and Safety Manager in the areas of safety & health claims administration, insurance services and risk management. Recommend, develop and deliver appropriate training programs and activities that enhance the safety and health of Company employees, as well as minimize the Company's exposure to loss. Conduct risk management job observations for employees and contractors

Key Accountabilities Develop and implement (including delivery of) OSHA compliant educational training programs and activities that help develop and improve the safety process within the company and to ensure compliance with federal state and local regulations. Develop and implement the use of regulatory compliance programs, including investigating new technologies, providing professional review and recommendations for the purchase of tools, materials and equipment that will enhance safety performance throughout the organization. Conduct safety audits, observations and inspections to identify hazards and deficiencies that expose the company to loss or failure to comply with regulatory requirements. Compile, analyze, and interpret data related to safety training and performance to measure the effectiveness of existing programs. Provide assistance and expertise in accident/claim investigation and claims management, when required, and make recommendations to prevent recurrences. Stays up to date with local, state, and federal H&S regulations, ensuring the organization remains compliant and collaborates with various departments to provide support in H&S policies and promoting safe best practices. Act as a resource for employees regarding safety-related inquiries and observations providing guidance, coaching, and support. Closely partners with operations and production teams locally. Lead emergency response planning and preparedness efforts, including conducting drills and refresher training for staff. Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of Company Health and Safety Policies and Procedures. Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations applicable to safety and health fields. Working knowledge of the various functional areas and their role in the organization, including operating procedures of the Company. Working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations, as well as working knowledge of the various functional areas of a water utility, to develop and implement appropriate risk management activities associated with departmental goals. Demonstrated understanding of a water utility operation, knowledge, of and ability to integrate regulatory requirements into the training and development of all operating unit employees Strong communication and coaching skills. Experience/Education Associate level degree required in a related field, i.e safety/loss control preferred. Bachelor's level degree preferred Minimum 3 years’ experience in safety/loss control in a related industry or municipal operation Work Schedule Full-time On-site Monday-Friday, daylight hours (may vary depending on training needs) On-call responsibility  Travel Requirements Primarily limited to Central Division, which includes Alton, Godfrey, Jerseyville, and surrounding areas. Some overnight travel may be required.
