The Information System Security Officer (ISSO) serves as the advisor to the Information System Owner. ISSOs are responsible for ensuring the implementation and maintenance of security controls in accordance with the System Security Plan (SSP) and Department of Defense (DoD) policies.

As a Senior ISSO you will:

Need to understand the RMF, and how to move a system from Assessment and Authorization to continuous monitoring. Develop and maintain the systems Security Plan and Body of Evidence Knowledge of vulnerability management, and the ability to create solutions to remediate or mitigate issues. Conduct periodic system assessments to ensure compliance with system authorization. Assist change control process to ensure that maintenance activities are in compliance with organizational policies. A week in the life on a Senior ISSO:

Reviewing and developing Information Systems (IS) authorization support documentation. Notifying the customer when changes occur that might affect IS authorization to operate. Performing system and network self-inspections. Providing security coordination and reviews on all system test plans. Attending system Integrated Product Team meetings. Perform audits to Identifying vulnerabilities and implementing countermeasures. Conducting security surveys at subordinate facilities and gathering pertinent security documentation for inclusion into system accreditation packages. Coordinating, preparing, and tracking IS inspections, reports, and responses. Maintaining IS security records and advising on and preparing Co-Utilization Agreements.
