ResponsibilitiesBerkley Luxury is seeking an experienced commercial general liablity claims examiner. This role is located in our NJ office or remotely for a highly qualified candidate.
Under supervision of a member of the Claims Management teams, Investigates, evaluates, monitors and resolves assigned claims in accordance with company standards, procedures and regulatory requirements.
Manages claim files from inception to closure including coverage analysis, liability and damages investigation, evaluation and resolution, with management supervision.Reviews and sets up new loss assignmentsEstablishes appropriate initial loss and expense reserves and continually evaluates the file for adequacy, accuracy and adherence to reserving guidelinesAnalyzes and interprets policy language in conjunction with specific loss facts to reach appropriate coverage decisions.Drafts coverage correspondence, including reservations of rights and coverage disclaimers in compliance with state statutes and regulationsNegotiates settlements with insureds and third parties using an object approach to claims resolutionComposes correspondence to insureds, claimants, attorneys, agents and regulatory agencies.Appropriately and clearly documents all claim file activity, including current strategy, plan of action and exit planWorks with manager to direct and control the activities and costs of outside vendors including independent adjusters, experts and attorneysEffectively presents and discusses loss facts, issues and recommendations in department discussions and meetingsComposes Large Loss Reports and other detailed reporting documents as appropriate on a regular and timely basisMay participate in projects and other corporate initiatives such as audits, task forces, focus groups, etc.Other duties as required

Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent experienceJD degree a plus5-10 years of claims related experience in the Property and Casualty insurance industry Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong presentation skills.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.Demonstrated knowledge of a paperless Claims environment.Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
