We are seeking an experienced and strategic senior communications manager to join the Global Communications team at Avery Dennison. Reporting to the Vice President of Global Communications, the person in this role will design and develop communications that support ID Solutions and Vestcom business objectives, and drive initiatives that engage employees and elevate the company’s reputation. This is a US-based remote position (Dallas, Ohio, New York preferred) and the role will also have a dotted line into the Vice President of Human Resources, ID Solutions and Vestcom. The senior communications manager will work directly with all levels of management, partnering with internal client groups, including HR, Finance and Legal, to deliver communication strategies and content that effectively engage employees and other key stakeholders. Primary focus areas include business communications, sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and employee benefits/well-being.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
The position includes strategic responsibilities for developing short- and long-term communication objectives for the ID Solutions and Vestcom businesses.Develop strategic communications plans, identify key messages and produce high-impact materials that effectively convey timely and relevant information to diverse audiences across ID Solutions and Vestcom business units, globally. Champion employee engagement and collaboration through new and existing enterprise channels, including executive videos, town hall meetings, special events and more.Build a more transparent and open communications culture through strategic manager communications and toolkits that connect leaders to key business priorities and empower them to be effective communicators. Collaborate with internal clients to design, implement, and measure communications programs and activities that drive business results. Serve as communications partner to the VP, Human Resources for ID Solutions and Vestcom, developing employee communications related to key HR initiatives.Serve as communications partner to the VP, Digital and Hardware Innovations, Solutions Group, developing employee communications related to key digital initiatives. Ensure that new information is regularly added to all other communications media, including the company intranet. Proactively drive the creation, execution and evaluation of the business’ communications campaigns.Manage internal and external resources to maximize creativity, productivity and cost efficiencies.Keep internal and external audiences informed on the assigned business(es) objectives and goals.Champion correct usage of graphics standards and corporate guidelines. Protect and promote the business’ brand and Avery Dennison corporate identity.Review work submitted by outside agencies/contractors to ensure accuracy, proper design, layout, copy, etc. Coordinate activities with the sales department.Internal Communications Focus
Play a pivotal role in developing, implementing and managing internal communications programs.Develop and execute strategic, consistent and ongoing internal communications programs, as well as leveraging internal and external messages and promoting a common identity, purpose, value and culture among all employees. Partner with key stakeholders to foster effective, timely two-way communication between executives and employees and an understanding of corporate and divisional goals and strategies via various internal vehicles and materials – both print and electronic, manager/employee meetings and executive forums. Develop, write and produce regular newsletters.Assist with executive speeches and presentations as needed. Assist in maximizing Company’s reputation through involvement in community activities (i.e. United Way, Chambers of Commerce, etc.).QualificationsQualifications
Bachelor Degree in Advertising, Journalism, Marketing or related field.
10+ years’ broad reaching communications, marketing, marketing communications experience or related, with a minimum of five years developing objectives (preferably global) and strategies for applicable communications programs.Experience in change management.Strong writing, communication and presentation skills, including speech-writing. Excellent project management skills & vendor selection experience.Effectively work cross-divisionally, in diverse cultures and operating structures, for leadership with differing strategic objectives and approaches to the marketplace. Proven track record of working across multiple divisions/operating groups and functions and juggling multiple priorities. Experience in managing the systems and processes for dissemination of internal communications information and be able to set policies and standards for the function. Skilled in influencing senior management, with a high level of integrity.Skilled in developing clear, succinct articulation of communications objectives in the form of project briefs.Product and company branding experience.Creativity skills – including creative and art direction.Skilled in quickly grasping complicated information and communicating it in an audience-appropriate fashion.Ability to conceive, plan, execute and evaluate the whole range of communications materials – including advertising, direct mail, print collateral, electronic collateral, sales promotions, internal communications and PR.Qualifications
