The University of Miami UHealth - Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (BPEI) at SoLé Mia has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Manager, Ophthalmic Clinical Services. The Sr. Manager oversees the planning and implementation of all clinical functions for the assigned facilities. The incumbent provides guidance and supervision to department staff to develop and maintain an environment conducive to the delivery of efficient and high-quality eye care.

Core Job Functions:                                                                                          

Manages work activities in the designated unit to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Acts as the primary interface between individual technicians, physicians, fellows, and patients.

Communicates and disseminates general information and policy or procedure changes to personnel.

Interviews, selects, and hires new staff, and ensures that staff is trained, developed, and empowered to effectively perform their jobs.

Conducts, monitors, and evaluates the effectiveness of employee performance improvement plans.

Oversees the review, revision, and implementation of standard operating procedures.

Serves as patients’ advocate to ensure patients’ needs and concerns are addressed. Establishes protocols to insure confidentiality of patient information.

Ensures technicians are certified to perform examinations and establishes an educational program for ophthalmic technicians.

Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.

Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                        

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Any appropriate combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.

Certification and Licensing:

IJCAHPO (International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology) - Minimum COA Certification (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant)

COT Certification (Certified Ophthalmic Technician) preferred

Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Preferred 

Experience:

Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

​Knowledge of business management principles.

Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.

Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

Ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others.
