The Mills OPEX Technical Systems Senior Manager is one of the key business improvement drivers within the Mills OPEX Team.  Technical Systems include program and process improvement, coordination of cost take out (CTO) projects with suppliers, and deep-dive process improvement Six Sigma Designs of Experiments (DOE).  These technical systems improvements will focus on improving mill performance in the mills that have the highest value opportunities.   This role will be the Mills OPEX Team’s go-to resource to solve technical challenges inside our mills, qualifications, and certifications.  This Senior Manager will build strong cross-functional relationships with our Mills EMS Team, Quality Team, Product Development Team, Finance Team, and Procurement Team.  

 

The Mills OPEX Technical Systems Senior Manager will work very closely with Mill Operations Senior Executives, OPEX, EMS, Safety, Quality, and L&D leadership teams to develop, deploy, and sustain needed plans for each key strategic initiative.  The Mills OPEX Technical Systems Senior Manager will represent Mill Operations on select cross-regional teams that are focused on similar technical systems improvements throughout Smurfit Westrock. This Senior Manager will work very closely within the Mills OPEX Team to ensure that all OPEX work is aligned to the overall business goals and documented in a way that can be easily replicated throughout Smurfit Westrock.

 

HOW YOU IMPACT SMURFIT WESTROCK:

Participate as a strategic thought partner for the Mills OPEX Team and for the Mill Operations Leadership team.  Focus is to align key initiatives with overall business objectives.Identify key performance improvement opportunities across the Paper Mill Division.  Initiate the problem-solving process.  Assess the improvement resource requirements (OPEX, EMS, IT, Mill, etc.) and the potential benefit realization.  Apply technical experience and expertise to launch, execute, and deliver the anticipated benefit realization (on time and on target).Ensure that the sustainment plan is being applied and take appropriate actions if the sustainment plan begins to fail.Proactively direct and track technical projects that are in-progress to help identify bottlenecks and implement corrective / preventive actions as necessary.Identify potential technical risks and challenges related to our OPEX Team programs and recommend corrective steps to the Mills Operations leadership team.Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between OPEX, EMS, IT, Procurement, Safety, Quality and L&D leadership teams.Organize periodic report-outs of programs deployment status to stakeholders, internal and external to the Mills Division.

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

BS/BA; Technical Degree and MBA Preferred.10+ relevant years of industry experience with progressive growth in leadership and business impact.Demonstrated team player with an ability to build teams, foster collaboration, develop and mentor employees. Passionate about Continuous Improvement.Team development and coaching.Effective communicator.Building trust and relationships.Excellent business acumen with ability to create financial models used to support program resourcing and investment.Driven, with a high sense of urgency to achieve results.Manages and drives change.Excellent people skills, especially in a multi-cultural environment.Travel required <50% (up to 3 days/week, 2 weeks per month).

 

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE NEEDED TO SUCCEED:

Zero Loss Analysis.Experimental Design.Six Sigma Methodologies (VSM, DMAIC, 5S, Standard Work, Kaizen).Root Cause and RCFA Analysis Methodology.Software (PI, Minitab, Visio, Alteryx and Excel).Business systems (Panther, Optivision, SAP).Can develop SMART goals and KPIs in a complex business environment.
