The Senior Measurement Process Development Engineer serves as ABIOMED’s in-house expert for developing processes to measure high precision metal, ceramic and plastic components. This role is a key technical resource for the company’s continued growth, and is a great opportunity for someone to make a difference at one of the fastest-growing medical technology companies, focused on recovering hearts and saving lives.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement measurement processes to support introduction of new components
• Evaluate current measurement process, and when necessary, develop and implement improvements
• Train or oversee the training of technicians and operators in the use of new measurement tools, fixtures and/or processes
• Draft and complete gauge RR protocols and reports, IQ/OQ/PQ protocols and reports and engineering change orders
• Develop and/or work with internal partners to design and implement fixturing, gauges, and templates, to support incoming inspection measurement processes.
• Work with suppliers to support measurement process development where necessary, ensuring alignment with Abiomed’s internal processes
• Partner with Supplier Engineering and Development Engineering to complete project deliverables to meet program milestones
• Assist in the analysis of defective components at incoming inspection
• Reinforce current best practices for gauge use
• Collaborate with a broad team of engineers and technicians to meet job objectives

• Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Mechanical, Plastics or Manufacturing Engineering
• 5 years professional work experience, preferably in medical devices or other regulated high precision manufacturing environments
• Proven experience programming and operating CMM and vision systems. Experience with MicroVu CMM a plus.
• Proven experience drafting and completing IQ/OQ/PQ protocols and reports.
• Proven experience drafting and completing Gauge RR studies.
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt required, Black Belt preferred
• Working knowledge of metrology tools
