Job DescriptionBe part of the Engineering Innovation team developing new products for Avery Dennison including, but not limited to, portable and industrial thermal barcode printers, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), wireless solutions, accessories and services. Work within formal and informal teams; Utilize project management tools; Utilize individual creativity to resolve design and materials problems, Develop novel and successful products; Work closely with other corporate technical, manufacturing, and marketing resources; Will manage to milestones and have top-line growth objectives.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Demonstrable ability to design new products from concept phase to mass production.
Participate as part of an innovative development team, contribute during conceptual design and architectural strategic planning sessions, provide in-depth technical input and analysis, perform design reviews, and actively participate as part of the overall engineering team.
Present information and effectively communicate with cross functional teams.
Maintain awareness of advances in technology and competitive intellectual property.
Provide recommendations for capital purchases - equipment.
Leverage internal and external expertise to accomplish goals.
Methodical problem solving using a methodical approach (builds mental models, designs of experiments, develops test tools, etc) in understanding and solving problems.
QualificationsMinimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
7+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering Design
Proven expertise in plastic part design, particularly for components that snap-fit, hinge, interlock without fasteners, incorporate interference fits, or feature overmolding.
Be proficient in recommending and selecting of materials for plastic designs
Effectively apply mechanical engineering best practices, latest innovations, analysis tools and machine shop manufacturing knowledge to designs
Advanced Mechanical design and 3D modeling experience with Solidworks (a must have)
Pro/E experience a plus
Experience in designing for metal castings and sheetmetal designs
Thermal Flow, Strain/Stress, Finite Element Analysis, and Torque analysis experience
Technically creative with an understanding of mechanical functions to provide solutions in a robust and economical manner
High-volume product design experience a plus
Experienced in drawing creation for assemblies and details to include all GD&T and documentation to allow the manufacture and assembly of designs that meet specified requirements
Ability to work independently, foster a team environment and work with an interdisciplinary team to execute product design from concept to production including specifications, design, prototyping, validation and testing,in a fast-paced environment
Experience working with operations, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality organizations as well as vendors to ensure a smooth product launch and sustaining.
Self-motivated to initiate and implement tasks, strategies and techniques in a goal oriented manner to increase productivity and profitability
Experience writing requirements, functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and the Google online suite of products (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
Experience with additive manufacturing/3D printing techniques and design for manufacturability (DFM) principles
Knowledge of Industry 4.0 concepts and smart manufacturing technologies
Familiarity with sustainability and eco-friendly design practices
Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools for design optimization
Other Requirements:
This role requires to be in the office a minimum of 3 x week in Miamisburg, OH
