As a Senior Staff Engineer on PayPal’s Design System Team, you will be a key contributor to building and evolving the UI framework that powers consistent, high-quality mobile experiences across PayPal’s ecosystem including Venmo, Zettle, and other products. You will work on creating scalable, reusable, flexible UI frameworks and collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and deliver modular, performance-driven solutions, enabling a unified and seamless experience across mobile apps. The ideal candidate will have deep mastery in one mobile (iOS or Android). Your Way to Impact 

Design and implement robust, and flexible UI frameworks that are modular, extensible, and adaptable enabling faster UI development for PayPal’s mobile apps. 

Build and maintain reusable, responsive and high-performance Android/iOS components that ensure uniformity across PayPal’s diverse product ecosystem. 

Bring deep expertise in either iOS or Android development, while having a good understanding of the other, ensuring you can contribute to both platforms and facilitate cross-platform consistency. 

Enable teams to move faster by providing well-documented, scalable components that can be easily integrated into any product. 

Influence the evolution of PayPal's design system to meet the needs of a growing, global user base. 

Work closely with design, engineering, and product teams to ensure alignment and consistency between design vision and technical execution. 

  

Your Day-to-Day 

Lead the development and enhancement of reusable modular UI frameworks for PayPal’s design system. 

Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to define framework requirements, design solutions, and ensure consistent user experiences across mobile platforms. 

Implement robust mobile UI frameworks with a focus on performance, accessibility, extensibility, and maintainability for both iOS and Android that work across PayPal, Venmo, Zettle, and other brands. 

Drive engineering excellence by creating reusable, production-ready frameworks. 

Conduct code reviews, ensuring high-quality standards and providing mentorship to junior engineers. 

Work with designers to ensure seamless integration of design and functionality for mobile apps. 

Optimize the performance of the UI frameworks and components to ensure smooth, fast, and responsive mobile experiences. 

Drive the adoption and consistent usage of the design system across teams and products. 

Stay up-to-date with the latest mobile development trends, tools, and best practices. 

Iterate and improve mobile UI frameworks and components based on feedback and performance data from real-world usage.

What Do You Need to Bring 

14+ years of experience in mobile development with a strong focus on reusable UI frameworks and components for iOS and Android. 

Proven track record of building scalable, high-performance mobile UI frameworks and components. 

Expertise in mobile development for iOS or Android (using Kotlin, Swift, Java), modern development practices (e.g. using Swift UI, Jetpack Compose libraries), with good experience in the other platform. 

Deep knowledge of native mobile UI development, layout design, and architecture patterns (e.g., MVVM, MVI and others). 

Strong experience with performance optimization, multi-threading, memory management, and offline capabilities. 

Expertise in mobile accessibility standards and ensuring mobile apps are fully accessible. 

Knowledge of UI/UX design systems (Material Design, Apple’s Human Interface guidelines). 

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks (e.g., XCTest, XCUITest, Espresso, JUnit), and version control (Git). 

Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor junior engineers. 

Strong understanding of accessibility (WCAG) standards and ensuring frameworks are built with accessibility in mind. 

Strong communication and collaboration skills. 

Experience interacting with engineering teams from multiple geo-locations.
