Senior Network Engineer Job Description

The Senior Network Engineer is a technical position responsible for performing various work functions in support of the Herc Rentals enterprise network. This position will require in-depth technical knowledge to facilitate the design, install, and management of enterprise networking solutions and associated components.   This will include the high-level input on system architecture and design changes, analysis and resolution of system hardware, software, and networking issues.

Along with this knowledge, it is imperative that the incumbent understands Herc Rental’s business goals and management’s objectives and priorities. The incumbent collaborates to develop solutions and processes for supporting the large and diverse user community’s needs within the constraints of the business requirements and Infrastructure Services Portfolio of offerings.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for configuration, implementation, and support for network installations as necessary.Provide network support and troubleshooting network solutions for an enterprise network.Work with customers, vendors, and technical teams to prospect and develop network design, installation, and support opportunities.Maintaining an established work schedule and providing on-call assistance, including nights, weekends, and/or holidays.Create and maintain comprehensive documentation as it relates to network technologies, network topology, network equipment, and configuration(s). Ability to document standards, methods and produce drawings of environmentsProvide timely and accurate project status updates to customer contacts and managementAnalyze system reports, error logs and activity and initiate system enhancements as neededProvide Engineering level support for incident and problem management Oversee Managed Services to ensure network incidents and problems are appropriately resolved or escalated within SLA.Interact with customers and establish customer relationships to gather and analyze customer needs, assess available resources, and determine optimal solutions.  Develop project plans incorporating resource estimates for project tasks and manage projects as assigned.  Collaborate with senior members of the enterprise infrastructure teams. Advise management on technology roadmaps, evaluate vendor products, and make recommendations on product/service selection and current system upgrades.Train, educate and mentor staff, as necessaryParticipate in after-hours upgrades, troubleshooting, and/or on-call availability

EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS:

Cisco CCNP certification (Preferred)Experience with large-scale Cisco enterprise networking solutions including design, implementation, and support.Experience with working in a SDWAN environment (Fortinet, VeloCloud, or Meraki) Experience with Cloud Services including AWS, Azure, or OCIExperience with provisioning network services around MPLS, DIA, LTE, and Broadband10+ years’ experience installing, upgrading, and maintaining Cisco ISR routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access pointsBachelor’s degree or equivalent experienceExcellent problem solving and troubleshooting skillsExperience maintaining network performance through network monitoring and analysis, QoS service implementation, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problemsComprehensive understanding of network services and network routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP)Solid understanding of IP routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP)Cisco ASA, Routing, Switching, QoS, Meraki WAP, SolarWinds MonitoringTCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VPN, DMVPNExperience with LAN hardware including patch panels, Fiber Optic, Cat5e and Cat 6 wiringA strong working knowledge of technologies surrounding a network infrastructureExperience supporting IP Telephony, Linux, Microsoft Server, Windows, and SolarWinds monitoring toolsKnowledge of carrier services and interfacesWorking knowledge of Cisco UCS and VMware virtual environmentsProficient in customer knowledge transfer and documentationStrong attention to detail in-regard to project planning and documentation Ability to apply judgment, implement solutions, and resolve conflicts, all in a multi-tasked environmentAbility to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and with written documentationAbility to handle a growing, fast paced environment
