System One has a full-time, direct hire opportunity available for our client in York County, PA. They are seeking a Senior Level Packaging Project Engineer for their manufacturing facility.
SUMMARY
The Senior Packaging Project Engineer leads capital engineering projects from design to startup, focusing on packaging systems. This role requires expertise in current and emerging packaging machinery trends, from primary packaging to palletizing, applied in a fast-paced environment. The engineer collaborates with customers, machine suppliers, and material vendors to optimize product performance, ensuring compliance with company policies and objectives. Responsibilities include technical project management for new equipment installations, continuous improvement initiatives, contractor management, and packaging equipment operations. This position also provides training and technical leadership on equipment operations and packaging materials, directly impacting food safety and quality.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage large capital projects: define scope, schedule, and budget. Collaborate with stakeholders and customers. Develop work scope documents and manage competitive bidding. Oversee contractor installation for safety and compliance. Support startup processes and project deliverables. Promote Safety and Quality initiatives. Uphold company core values and standards.TECHNICAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Expertise in VFFS, HFFS, and flow wrapping. Knowledge of secondary packing automation (case packing, palletizing). Understanding of packaging materials and equipment relationships. Ability to approve packaging die lines and design production lines for OEE optimization. Familiarity with packaging machinery cleaning methods.EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES, AND EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field (preferred). 6+ years of experience in food packaging engineering and safety. Successful execution of projects ranging from $100K to $5MM+. Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Ability to travel as needed and work collaboratively across organizational levels.
