About the Role:

Take a leadership role in developing global strategies and managing day to day intellectual property efforts to Biologics and gene therapy preclinical and clinical development, and commercial phase company programs.

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):

Provide legal advice to assigned business partners on a broad range of topics involving intellectual propertyIdentification of inventions, patent drafting, and prosecution relating to biologics and gene therapyConducting strategic IP due diligence, including analyzing the patent portfolios of the Company’s competitors and potential collaboratorsIdentifying opportunities for expanding the Company’s IP position and collaborating with members of various discovery, development and business groups within the CompanyWorking and communicating with collaborators and other external strategic partners in connection with developing a global IP strategyReviewing and negotiating license agreements and IP clauses in other agreementsSupporting preparation for Biosimilars, and other patent litigation supportManaging the use of outside legal counsel globallyOther duties as assigned

Requirements:

PhD in genetics, immunology, biochemistry, virology or related discipline preferred andJuris Doctorate (JD) and admission to practice in California preferred and 10+ years of combined significant experience at in-house and law firm on patent prosecution, and life-cycle management experience related to biologics/gene therapyRegistered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office required and experience in the patent application preparation and prosecution in the U.S. and ex-US jurisdictions covering biologics and/or gene therapy inventions is a prerequisite for the positionA broad range of patent-related legal expertise required, including in patent preparation, both U.S. and foreign prosecution, IP due diligence, and strategic counseling.  Experience in drafting and prosecuting patents covering therapeutic antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, and related technologies is preferredExpertise in IP litigation and the aspects of regulatory affairs related to market exclusivityAbility to independently oversee legal matters, manage the use of outside legal counsel and work collaboratively with other personnel at NeurocrineAbility to set aggressive deadlines, handle multiple complex legal matters and see projects through to conclusionRecognized external expert in a strategic job functionRequires broad and comprehensive expertise in leading-edge theories and techniques within a strategic job functionApplies ingenuity and creativity to problem analysis and resolution in complicated and/or novel situationsInfluences internal/external business and/or industry issues that have an impact on NeurocrineAbility to drive strategic direction into tactical plansAbility to lead multiple teamsStrong leadership, mentoring skills and abilities typically supervises lower levels and/or leads indirect teamsExceptional communications, problem-solving, analytical thinking, influencing skillsSets broader picture and longer-term vision for departmentAbility to meet multiple deadlines across a variety of projects/programs, with a high degree of accuracy and efficiencyExcellent project leadership skills

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $217,000.00-$314,275.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 35% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
