Sr. Payroll Specialist
Responsibilities

The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s multi-national payroll process, including payroll regulation and tax compliance, reporting, reconciliation, and payroll validation.  The Senior Payroll Specialist is also responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, including tax filings and compliance documentation.

Accurately maintain comprehensive payroll records, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality. Stay up to date on Federal, State and Local payroll and tax regulations, applying updates to ensure compliance. Develop, maintain, and enhance payroll policies and procedures to align with organizational and regulatory standards. Conduct thorough audits and provide final approval for payment processing to ensure accuracy and accountability. Collaborate & communicate with key business partners such as Human Resources, Benefits, Community Leadership, Field Leadership, Technology, and third-party service providers. Support quarter and year-end processing, including the preparation and distribution of W2 and T4 reports. Collaborate with the Accounting team to manage unclaimed wage reporting, ensuring data accuracy and adherence to financial regulations. Develop advanced queries and reports for auditing, data analysis, and compliance tracking using payroll and accounting systems. Perform detailed audits of payroll reports, applying technical expertise to identify discrepancies and ensure precise payroll processing. Approve invoices from payroll processing vendor(s), partnering with them to ensure accurate, timely payroll processing and reporting. Continuously evaluate payroll processes, utilizing system functionality and technical best practices to improve efficiency, and compliance with all applicable laws. May perform other duties as needed and/or assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or General Education Degree required with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant payroll experience in a technical or compliance-focused role. In-depth knowledge of U.S. and Canadian Federal, State and Local payroll tax laws, including multi-state taxation, reciprocity agreements, and regulatory compliance. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Excel with the ability to perform advanced functions such as VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and data analysis.  Capacity to learn quickly and adapt to new systems. Experience with payroll processing software preferred, such as ADP, Equifax, Ceridian, Kronos, and Peoplesoft. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and effectively. Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to identify discrepancies, troubleshoot issues, and ensure data accuracy. Must successfully complete all Atria-specified training programs.
