Sr. Petroleum Engineer

Job Summary
The Senior Petroleum Engineer will report directly to the Petroleum Engineer Team Leader and will be located in KeyBank's office in Houston, TX. As a key part of KeyBank's Energy team, the Sr. Petroleum Engineer must leverage their experience and industry knowledge to provide petroleum engineering guidance and support to the corporate banking function, taking a leading role in the technical and economic evaluation of, even the most complex, petroleum properties in a manner that conforms to good engineering practice and KeyBank policy as it relates to oil and gas loans and other extensions of credit. The Senior Petroleum Engineer's prime function is the determination of corporate lending values, especially in complex or significant deals, based on a strong understanding of oil and gas lending risks. The Senior Petroleum Engineer will assist KeyBank's Petroleum Engineer Team Leader in evaluating, building, supporting, and maintaining even the most complex client portfolios when engineering support is required.

Responsibilities

Evaluates 3rd party reserve reports with a view to establishing an independent lending value that is in adherence to KeyBank’s formal lending policy and historical risk tolerances.Performs periodic reviews/testing of portfolio metrics.Supports complex technical evaluation of oil & gas assets as well as production updates to complete a collateral valuation, credit analysis and cash flow models for upstream companies.Discusses the engineering risks and merits of each deal, providing perspective and guidance to BGPM, Relationship Managers, the Credit team, and bank senior management.Employs industry software (e.g. Aries / PHDWin) to confirm client reserve assessments.Reviews the technical and economic input parameters to the client reserve report to ensure compliance with historical data.Utilizes a corporate cash flow model using KeyBank’s standard models incorporating economic assumptions such as production forecasts, reserves, commodity prices, operating costs, discount rate.Assesses the experience level and competence of a client’s technical management team, the reasonableness of a client’s business strategy as well as historical success at achieving strategic targets drawing upon broad industry and historical perspective.Prepares memos in support of complex or significant value credit applications that contain an independent assessment of an appropriate lending value, the risks and merits of the client’s asset portfolio, abilities of management, and the quality of a client’s producing assets as it relates to other clients and the industry in general.Assists as needed in business development and execution of bank mandates including syndications.Maintains an active network of other bank petroleum engineers to assess market risk issues and to establish an appropriate oil and gas price deck.Assists in the establishment of lending policies and the oil and gas pricing deck, leveraging deal and industry experience.Makes regular client and prospect calls to conduct due diligence in coordination with the Oil and Gas banking team.Assists with miscellaneous technical project related duties as required.Performs other duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities and/or activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without noticeComplies with all KeyBank policies and procedures, including without limitation, acting professionally at all times, conducting business ethically, avoiding conflicts of interest, and acting in the best interests of Key’s clients and Key.


Education Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent technical discipline combined with relevant industry experience. (required)


Experience Qualifications

10+ years of domestic/international oil and gas evaluation experience, preferably with a financial institution, exploration & production company or engineering consulting firm. (required)


Tactical Skills
