Role Summary The Powertrain Dynamometer Laboratory team at Rivian is here to provide high quality testing for Rivian’s Powertrain Development programs in a timely and efficient manner. You will work closely with Powertrain Test Engineers and Dynamometer Technicians to assemble, modify, disassemble, and inspect electric drive units to accommodate for dynamic and static tests. Additionally you will have the opportunity to support testing within the dynamometer test cells. Supported by the rest of the engineering team, you will be a key contributor for performing first-line troubleshooting of any operational issues encountered on test and take ownership of delivering high-quality build and teardown test data to support high-level Test & Validation plans for the products. The opening will be located at our Tustin, CA facility and reports directly to the Team Lead, Powertrain Lab, Product Development Responsibilities Assemble and dissemble electric drive units, including instrumentation Assemble electric drive units to standard test pallets, ready for delivery to test cells Perform end of line checks and sign off build sheets Perform component and assembly inspections and complete appropriate documentation Contribute to the diagnosis of part or component failure analysis Create fixtures and tools to aid assembly and disassembly of components and systems Work with the engineering teams for standard and special build instructions Support testing activities within Test Cells as needed Take ownership and escalate data or findings when appropriate Bring a can-do team spirit Provide feedback, create and implement processes and suggestions to new and/or improved workshop standards, protocols, and processes. Qualifications 10+ years Technician Experience working directly in automotive development field 2+ years Electric Vehicle experience Experience of bearing, gear, housing failure indicators Extensive knowledge of hand and power tools, including precision measurement equipment Expertise in instrumentation (Thermocouples, RTDs, Strain Gauges, Accelerometers, Hygrometers, Pressure Gauges, Flow Meters) Expertise environmental test set up and test error proofing Expertise in mechanical tooling and build fixture design Knowledge of motor, inverter, and gearbox concepts Knowledge of propulsion system and thermal (coolant and refrigerant) systems Knowledge of Electric Vehicle safety Work under strenuous / awkward positions throughout the working day. Someone that takes pride in their work Work in a team environment and communicate with fellow technicians Basic workshop etiquette, provide verbal and writing communication across all teams Pay Disclosure Salary Range for California Based Candidates: $47-59/hr (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
