Description

At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people's lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work — and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.

Northrop Grumman is seeking a talented Electrical Systems Integration Engineer to join our Civil Space Systems programs under our Tactical Space Systems Division located in Gilbert, AZ. This role is in support of the Habitat and Logistics Outpost (HALO) program. HALO is the first pressurized habitable module for Gateway, an international space station to be assembled cislunar space. HALO includes active thermal control, environmental control and life support systems, fault tolerant computing, multiple data bus, high power systems, crew interfaces. This complex project demands innovative solutions within tight volume and mass constraints. The vehicle is in advanced stages of design, however significant customer requirement changes are still forthcoming. You'll play a vital role in driving the design, verification, and integration of electrical systems for this critical space habitat module.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The Electrical Systems Integration Engineer will be responsible for a range of tasks. These tasks may be performed concurrently or at different stages, with prioritization based on project needs:

Drive open design to completion and solve design issues (e.g. propose solutions, support mass reduction initiatives)

Maintain electrical connectivity (e.g. update system block diagrams, update system-level electrical interconnection schematic, update grounding diagrams)

Collaborate with suppliers to ensure compliance with specifications and standards

Review suppliers “as-planned”, “as-designed”, and “as-built” documentation (e.g. interface control document, derating analysis, worst case analysis, qualification test plan and procedure, acceptance test plan and procedure, test report)

Conduct characterization and risk reduction tests  (e.g. evaluate test methods)

Development system-level electrical verification (e.g. method, objective, event, activity, success criteria, author test plan)

Perform electrical interface compatibility verifications (e.g. check component external interfaces compatibility including interconnecting harness, sneak circuit analysis)

Perform power management verifications - analyses and documentation (e.g. voltage drop, round trip resistance, impedance, power stability, circuit protection, electrical load analysis)

Manage hardware command and telemetry implementation (e.g. develop and coordinate calibration and conversion curves for analog telemetry in coordination subsystem engineers, verify electrical/software implementation)

Verify electrical connectivity implementation (e.g. verify electrical harness implementation, safety-critical circuit segregation, support peer-reviews)

Support physical layer verification (e.g. signal integrity)

Contribute to assembly integration and test activities (e.g. harness integration and testing, electrical test requirements development, anomaly investigations/resolutions)

Document verification activities (e.g. review test artifact, author test report, prepare verification closure notice)

Identify electrical systems risks, develop risk mitigation plans for selected risks, and implement mitigations

Collaborate effectively with team members from multiple subsystems and subject matter experts to achieve integrated solutions.

Train and mentor other team members

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or higher in a STEM area (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 8 years of relevant work experience or 6 years of relevant work experience with a Master's degree

General electrical engineering background with basic understanding of analog and digital electronics

Technical experience in systems engineering and integration

Proficiency in a programming language

Hands-on mentality and a passion for fast-paced environments

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of power converter topologies, micro-grid, grid-connected power electronics, grid-connected batteries

Understanding of switching waveforms, semi-conductor losses and experience with loss modeling

Experienced with data bus (Ethernet, SpaceWire, RS-422, RS-485, MIL-STD-1553) and troubleshooting

Experienced with signal acquisition (filtering, Analog to Digital Converter)

Experienced with electrical system grounding and characterization, power quality and EMI/EMC testing

Familiarity with functional specification, state machines, and FMEA (Failure Mode Effect and Criticality Analysis)

Model-based design and test background (e.g. Simulink, SPICE, AMESim, Saber, LabView)

Development and operations of hardware-in-the-loop simulators, conducting testing and troubleshooting of hardware and software interfaces

Experience on prime integrated systems (not just component/subsystem)

Full program lifecycle experience (requirements through integration/test/verification)

Experience in electrical manufacturing (e.g. board, unit, harness) a plus
