Job Description:

The Senior Process Metallurgist is responsible for supporting the Melting operations within the business. The Senior Process Metallurgist serves as a technical resource to operations, purchasing, supplier quality and product engineering on metallurgical issues. The Senior Process Metallurgist will work to continuously improve the quality and cost of the Melting process.

Essential Functions

Support the development of new part/product designs as they relate to Melting alloy, material specification, machinability, and product durabilityDevelop and maintain melting and process routings and process settings (recipes) for manufactured partsAnalyze metallurgical lab results and adjust or correct melting processes to assure quality conformanceProvide hands-on support to resolve operational problems with melting process and equipmentAnalyze metallurgical lab results and adjust or correct melting processes to assure quality conformanceReview equipment quotes, prints, approval drawings to ensure adherence to specifications and process requirementsParticipate in equipment run-offs to ensure proper system functionProvide operator training and production support for melting alloy and related processesSupport the training of skilled trades resources responsible for servicing melting furnaces and related systemsResponsible for evaluating new alloy suppliers and assisting in purchasing of alloy spec and non-spec for blendingContinuously improve quality, cost, responsiveness, and safetyOther duties as assigned\

Skills/Experience

7 years of alloy blending experienceAbility to work in a cross-functional environmentExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong computer skillsAbility to multi-task, while producing quality work.  Self-motivated / Self-starterStrong understanding of alloy blending and melting including: off spec metal blended to spec, furnace cleaning knowledge, metal compositionStrong understanding of manufacturing processes and machiningExperience with analytical techniques in a metallurgical laboratory
