Job Description

Ensure on-time launch for steering programs and delivery at or below target-cost for piece price, tooling, etc. as well as work effectively with the project team to meet targets for quality, delivery and other cost areas.

What you can look forward to as a Sr. Program Buyer:  

Work with Engineering, Commodity Managers, Supplier Development Engineers and Program Managers to ensure supplier performance and deliverables are met and to identify cost and timing issues and resolve them. Update and accurately maintain databases internal to ZF for all new program launches. Ensure sourcing activity is in line with cost targets and Purchasing processes, driving the coordination of commodity strategies with the goals of the individual programs.  Facilitate cross-functional meetings, including suppliers, to improve program cost and delivery through design and development.  Assist in strategic evaluation of suppliers by conducting research, analysis and/or participating in the selection process. Following selection, participate in the development and launch of new suppliers and conduct negotiations for/with the commodity team. Coordinate / lead efforts to identify and implement cost savings opportunities and meet assigned cost targets in engineering changes, VAVE, lean activities and re-sourcing activities.  Act as a representative for Purchasing in Customer Quote process, including bill of material cost development and quotes that are aligned with organizational targets. Also ensure that all necessary quotations are processed and assumptions are accurate from a Supply standpoint.  Organize and facilitate reviews in accordance with established ZF processes (e.g., GDPEP, end of phase reviews, etc.).  Represent Purchasing at a variety of reviews related to program launch (e.g., sourcing committee, design review, launch readiness review, program review, etc.).

Your profile as a Sr. Program Buyer:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, or related field. 5+ years of relevant experience in a professional purchasing capacity (i.e., technical/commodity purchasing, purchasing project management, purchasing management, etc.). Experience with supplier analysis and evaluation (i.e., quality, capacity, cost, etc.). Experience with supplier bidding process, negotiation, and cost estimating. Experience with APQP and/or project management tools and methods. Knowledge of purchasing tools, negotiation methods, and business communications. Knowledge of cost improvement/containment topics and techniques. Experience with SAP and proficiency with Excel (i.e., Pivot Tables, Formulas, Filters, etc.). Ability and willingness to travel domestically.
