Sr. Project Accountant
Description We are offering an opportunity for a Sr. Project Accountant in the Government Contracting industry. The role is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and involves managing all accounting activities related to specific projects within the project ledger. The Sr. Project Accountant will work closely with the program office, prepare invoices for customers, reconcile project-related accounts, and provide project data to the program office. Responsibilities: • Maintain project accounting records in corporate general ledger Oracle software. • Manage, prepare, and process required accounting entries such as accruals, deferrals, reclassifications, and fees as directed by project managers and/or as required by the project contract. • Review new contracts and modifications to set up projects in Oracle based on financial information from the contract. • Produce monthly accounting reports for financial statements and monthly management reports, and compare actual costs to estimates to analyze variances. • Support internal and external audit information requests and provide data and assistance to Project Management for budget development. • Serve as a liaison with customers regarding invoice-related questions, including interpretation of charges, reconciliation, and support documentation. • Assist in the management, verification, and administration of purchase requisitions and timely payment of invoices. • Complete general ledger reconciliations and monthly reporting, and ensure projects are appropriately set up in accordance with contract terms and project management parameters. • Perform cost accounting work covering material and production costs, costs of sales, research and product development, etc. as required by location. Develop standard cost data and accurate inventory valuations. • Manage all functions of accounts receivable including the calculation of the most complicated customer invoices and contractual issues. • Review all revenue contracts and pricing information for completeness and provide revenue, customer and other analysis for management. Requirements • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field. • Demonstrated experience in government contracting. • Proficiency in account reconciliation and balance sheet reconciliation. • Proficient in bank reconciliations. • Experience in maintaining the general ledger. • Ability to prepare and adjust journal entries. • Mastery of Microsoft Excel. • Experience in performing month-end close procedures. • Familiarity with Oracle or similar accounting software. • Extensive knowledge in project accounting. • Understanding of the percentage (%) of completion method in accounting. • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. • High ethical standards and professionalism, given the sensitivity of financial information. • Must be detail-oriented and possess excellent organizational skills. • Proven knowledge of financial regulations and legislation.
