Sr. Project Environmental Scientist
What You Will Do:

 

As Gannett Fleming continues to grow and expand, we are looking for a talented Senior Project Environmental Scientist or Geologist with a strong interest in and experience conducting various environmental investigations and analyses for a wide range of public and private sector projects.

 

We are currently seeking a senior-level professional who is an accomplished self-starter and effective team player with a strong science background to work under the direction and supervision of senior managers. This is an excellent opportunity to join the company in a geographic area with current and anticipated business growth. This full-time position will be based in our Owings Mills, Maryland. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and interpreting federal, state, and local agency regulations, planning and executing analysis of a wide range of environmental projects, assessments,  environmental compliance, infrastructure support, remediation, and preparation of technical reports and documents, and occasional field work oversight.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

Lead and responsible for most aspects of case management/project management with Principal level oversight.  Provide mentoring and training to junior staff. Lead the development and gathering of technical data, conduct investigations, inventories, audits, and surveys. Oversight of field team work including monitoring subsurface explorations, collecting soil, and groundwater samples. Scoping and quality control. Complete environmental due diligence projects, including desktop reviews, Phase I, and/or Phase II Environmental Site Assessments Leads and Prepares technically accurate, complete and concise work plans and technical reports  based on evaluation of site data needs. Performs or manages the implementation of project work plans including staff briefing, scheduling, subcontractor coordination and sample collection. Evaluates, analyzes and interprets technical data relative to project-specific goals, creates and interprets accurate data display graphs and figures, and identifies data gaps and data needs. Works with and mentors junior staff to ensure all resources are in place for proper fieldwork and reporting execution. Develops and manages budgets, evaluates budget vs. plan and analyzes cost control efficiencies. Communicates with clients, third party and regulatory agents regarding project status, schedules and compliance issues.   Acting as a liaison with other internal design disciplines, subconsultants, subcontractors, and regulatory and resource agencies. Education | Experience:

Minimum Qualifications 

Bachelor's degree in environmental, physical science, geology or a field that is closely related.  Master’s Degree is preferable.  Has applied, or has interest and ability to apply for, initial professional certification in the candidate’s core discipline, where applicable (e.g., GIT, PG, EIT, FE, PE). 6 to 10+ years of environmental consulting or other related work experience. Experience with collection of samples and interpretation of data pertaining to geology, groundwater, soil, air, soil vapor and other media. Prior experience performing ASTM Phase I and Phase II ESAs. Must possess strong written, verbal, and telephone communication skills, particularly the ability to produce accurate and concise field notes, logs, and technical reports. Must possess strong computer skills, including proficiency in industry-standard software  OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training is preferred (may be required to complete 40-hour Health & Safety training Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and individually. Must be able to work in the field and occasionally travel overnight. Company Overview:
