SHI’s Sr. Proposal Writer creates technical and professional documents, explaining complex information clearly and concisely. They collaborate closely with the Public Sector Proposal, Sales Support, and Sales teams to drive successful proposals, enhance content, and ensure a positive end-user experience for customers.

 

This role involves understanding the factors that influence writing choices to produce high-quality content. The Sr. Proposal Writer ensures that SHI's proposals, articles, and other customer-facing materials are professional and engaging. They work directly with management and key stakeholders to produce accurate, appropriate, and visually appealing content.

 

At the senior level, this writer has more discretion and authority than other team members with similar responsibilities. They provide guidance and training to the team and are considered experts in their field with extensive experience and industry knowledge, serving as a point of escalation. This position is responsible for championing the documentation methodology and framework to ensure consistency and efficiency. A high degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

 

The Sr. Proposal Writer reports to the Director of Proposal Content Strategy and Development.

Include, but are not limited to: 

Understand and address end-user needs: Determine multifaceted needs of end-users of technical documentation and RFX responses, and gather usability feedback to improve writing and reviewability.Collaborate with teams: Work with product/service designers, developers, Public Sector, and other teams to gain subject matter expertise and make products/services easier to understand and evaluate.Strategic writing and content creation: Assess rhetorical context to make strategic writing decisions, generate and organize (plan, research, synthesize, and compose) supporting documents, and produce high-quality documentation that meets standards and is appropriate for the intended audience.Standardize and enhance content: Standardize content across platforms and media for cohesion and voice, create and use visuals to complement text, and edit and revise documentation to remain accurate and current.Mentorship and feedback: Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, create and/or champion best practices with management, give constructive feedback to peers, and review own work with others.Interface and data gathering: Interface between content creators, RFP team, and applicable departments to gather data for responses and help prepare content for distribution.Training and workshops: Plan, create, and deliver writing workshops and best practices training(s)Content library inputs: Contribute to and enhance content of a comprehensive content library, ensuring text is current, accurate, and compelling, Leadership collaboration: Collaborate directly with leadership to ensure new content is created, current content is reviewed and revised, and all content exceeds standards. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in communication, English, journalism, writing, or relevant work experience requiredMinimum of 5 years as a Proposal Writer, with experience writing and managing successful RFP responses for opportunities $20M+Proven experience in effective technical/proposal writing in a similar field required, IT industry preferred.Advanced skills in Microsoft Applications (SharePoint, Word/Track Changes, PowerPoint)Proficient in Adobe AcrobatFamiliarity with RFP and proposal management software (Responsive, Loopio Qorus, etc.) a plusProject management experience, including planning, executing, and closing projects Required Skills Creativity, curiosity, and willingness to challenge the status quoExtraordinary researching skills to supplement technical documentation and adjust for audience understandingExceptional writing skills to develop new content with limited guidance and to enhance existing contentEnsure accuracy and consistency in documentation, content, and proposals.Strong time management skills, efficiently managing time to meet deadlines across projects of varying complexitySelf-motivated to adhere to internal project deadlines and strategic deadlines for initiatives, content creation, and/or process implementationAnalytical thinking, with the ability to analyze complex information and present it clearlyProblem-solving skills, identifying issues and developing effective solutionsAbility to synthesize conflicting information from varying sourcesExceptional collaboration skills, working independently in a team environmentStrong interpersonal skills, building and maintaining relationships with team members and stakeholdersAdaptability, with the ability to adjust to changing priorities and work environmentsAbility to express ideas clearly and diplomatically while ensuring flexibility and customization for unique audiencesProven exceptional writing, editing, formatting, and communication skillsAbility to collaborate with writers, visual designers, and subject matter expertsDemonstrated ability to manage multiple deadline-driven projects and tasks, while prioritizing accordingly

Master’s Degree in English, Writing, or equivalent Experience writing and managing successful proposals for Public Sector customers (State and Local Government, Education, and Healthcare) Certifications Required APMP Certification preferred Additional Information The estimated annual pay range for this position is $85,000 - $120,000. The compensation for this position is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location and, therefore, will vary from individual to individual.
