Sr. R&D Engineer, Thermal Systems

 

Thermal R&D is responsible for system level thermal architecture (including radiators, refrigerant heat exchangers, compressors, fans, pumps, etc.) supporting the cabin, battery, and powertrain across all Lucid vehicles. We are seeking technically qualified and highly motivated engineers in the field of Thermal Engineering applied to automotive Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.  Qualified individuals will collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers to deliver innovative, best in class thermal components and systems with optimum efficiency, performance, reliability, and safety. 

What You’ll Do 

Design and develop automotive Air Conditioning system for passenger cabin comfort  Design, develop and test refrigeration components and systems; conduct hands on experiment  Develop complex coolant system concepts; design, develop, and test various coolant systems and related components  Develop 3D packaging and detailed models using a CAD tool similar to CATIA  1D modeling and CFD simulation (single phase and multiphase) of thermal components such as heat exchangers, compressors and power electronics  Work co-operatively with controls and calibration team to develop and optimize real time controls for vehicle coolant , refrigeration, and cabin conditioning systems 

Experience 

Experience in design and development of thermal systems for automotive, building or aerospace applications  Knowledge and experience in testing and simulation of thermal and fluid flow systems  Degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferably with specialization in thermal systems  Experience in the use of commercial tools for testing similar to LabView  Experience in the use of thermal-fluid simulation tools  Experience in developing CAD models using CATIA, NX, SolidWorks or similar tools
