Sr. Research Associate 1
The Marine Biology and Ecology Department at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric and Earth Science at the University of Miami has an exciting full time position for a Sr. Research Associate 1 to support the Lirman Laboratory.
The candidate's duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
+ Help organize all boating and diving activities including the creation and submission of dive and boat plans
+ Help supervise a field team consisting of staff, researchers, and students
+ Interact with all co-PIs to understand and execute all project related field activities
+ Conduct benthic habitat (coral reefs, hard bottom, soft sediments) and fish and macroinvertebrate surveys as needed
+ Help design all project field data sheets
+ Contribute to the collection of all field data, QA/QC data
+ Help archive all data and share data with collaborators as requested
+ Complete data analyses as requested
+ Help keep all dive and boat logs as required by the UM diving and boating program
+ Contribute to the writing and submission of project progress reports as needed
Required:
+ Master’s Degree
+ Hold a valid driver’s license
+ At least 2 years of experience handling small boats (19-27 ft)
+ Current MOCC boating certification
+ Current AAUS Science Diver Certification (including CPR and First Aid)
+ Good swimming skills and be able to snorkel and free-dive to at least 15 ft as needed
+ Knowledge of Microsoft Office, GPS, GIS, R
+ Be able to conduct physically demanding field work (lift ~50 lbs)
+ Work in cold/hot climate and buggy environment
+ Be able to take multi-day trips to sites outside Miami
+ Strong species identification skills (fish, corals, algae, macroinvertebrates)
