As Senior Scientist/Engineer, you will be part of the Materials group in our Science and Technology team focused on delivering the future in medical devices. The Polymer Scientist/Engineer will provide scientific expertise on testing strategies, execution, and analysis of data for medical device products, including but not limited to:
Rheological analysis including rotational rheology and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA)Thermal analysis including differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermalgravimetric analysis (TGA)Spectroscopy (FTIR, Raman spectroscopy)Responsibilities:
Perform material characterization and assessment to support medical device project teams with various Materials Science needs.Partner with peers and project teams, define test plans and lead problem solving initiatives.Work in a dynamic team environment and have strong interpersonal skills.Conduct hands-on laboratory analysis and testing.Document experiments in a highly regulated environmentKnowledge of technical concepts and principles underlying Materials Science techniques.Analyze test results and draft technical reports, consult on technical and regulatory strategy and draft technical justifications where testing is deemed to be unnecessary.Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or related degree/discipline.5+ years of related work experience and/or advanced education in materials science and engineering with focus on polymers.Knowledge of polymer structure-property relationships.Knowledge of polymer processing such as compounding, extrusion, and molding.Knowledge and technical expertise in testing techniques in materials science:RheologyThermal analysis techniquesStrong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organizationAbility to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines in timely manner.Strong organizational skills, as well as attention to detail.Preferred:
Advanced degree preferred – may substitute for 3 years of experience.Experience in Medical device products is highly preferred.6 or more years of experience and/or education in material science and engineering, polymer chemistry.Knowledge and technical expertise in testing techniques in materials science:RheologyPrinciples and theoryDMARotational rheologyThermal analysisKnowledge about industry standards for Kinetic Thermogravimetry such as ASTM E1641 -18Surface analysisMicroscopySEM/ESEM/EDSFailure analysisMicroscopy (optical, electron, confocal laser)Spectroscopy (EDS/FTIR/Raman)FractographySubstantial knowledge and technical expertise in materials used in medical devices, focused on polymer materials. This includes providing consultation and support to project teams to help meet their objectives.Understanding of polymer manufacturing and polymer chemistry.Ability to strategize with testing when justifications are not appropriate.Experience in protocol and report writing along with scientific data review.

The base pay for this position is $75,300.00 – $150,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
