Role Summary Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is at the forefront of the automotive industry's digital transformation, driving innovation through cutting-edge technologies. We are expanding our Infotainment development team to enhance the next generation of in-car user experiences. We are looking for an Android SDK Developer to join us in building scalable, robust, and user-centric SDK solutions for the automotive space. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Android Automotive OS SDK Developer to help design, implement, and scale SDKs for Android-based automotive platforms. This role will be pivotal in adapting and evolving the SDK to meet the needs of a fast-moving automotive ecosystem, where user requirements, technologies, and regulations are constantly changing. You will be part of a growing team responsible for designing, building, and scaling Android Automotive OS SDK solutions. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, UX/UI designers, and embedded systems engineers, to create a seamless, high-performance SDK for car manufacturers, app developers, and in-car system integrators. You will be responsible for accepting and implementing user requirements while ensuring that the SDK is scalable, secure, and adaptable to future trends in the automotive space. Responsibilities SDK Development: Design, develop, and maintain Android Automotive OS SDK components that support a variety of in-car use cases such as infotainment, navigation, connectivity, and vehicle data. Scalability: Ensure the SDK can scale effectively across a wide range of automotive platforms and integrate seamlessly with different hardware and software configurations. User Requirement Integration: Work closely with product managers and customers to gather and prioritize user requirements, adapting the SDK to meet these evolving needs in a rapidly changing industry. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with various internal teams (e.g., UX/UI, embedded systems, QA, and product teams) to deliver cohesive and user-friendly solutions. Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, ensuring the SDK works efficiently across a wide range of hardware configurations and provides a smooth user experience. Compliance & Standards: Stay informed on automotive industry standards, best practices, and compliance requirements related to Android Automotive OS development. Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the SDK by incorporating feedback from internal stakeholders and external partners, and by staying updated on the latest trends and technologies in Android Automotive development. Qualifications Proven experience in developing SDKs or APIs, with a focus on supporting Android app development. Strong proficiency in Android Automotive OS, including in-depth knowledge of the Android platform, AOSP (Android Open Source Project), and AAOS-specific features and challenges. Experience scaling up SDK development efforts, including managing complex requirements and maintaining long-term flexibility. Familiarity with Android development tools, version control systems (Git), and CI/CD pipelines. Solid understanding of android application performance optimization and memory management. Ability to quickly adapt to changes in user requirements and industry trends, with a focus on delivering high-quality and scalable solutions in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with user interface (UI) design and optimization for in-car displays and infotainment systems. Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, with an ability to troubleshoot complex issues across the software stack. Experience in agile development methodologies and familiarity with Jira, Confluence, or similar project management tools. Soft Skills: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment. Detail-oriented, with a focus on delivering high-quality, maintainable code. Team player with the ability to work autonomously and take ownership of projects. Pay Disclosure Salary Range/Hourly Rate for British Columbia Based Applicants: 174,200 CAD - 218,000 CAD (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
