About the Location Hybrid Position: This position may be considered Hybrid based on PetSmart’s FlexSmart policy and business needs. A Hybrid work arrangement is considered to be a blend of onsite and remote work activity. Associates with a Hybrid work arrangement have a work space at Phoenix Home Office and can be required to come onsite between 1-5 days a week as determined by leadership and based on business needs. About the Job Sr. Security Engineer – Identity and Access Management The Sr. Security Engineer – Identity and Access Management (IAM) is an advanced role responsible for maintaining PetSmart’s IAM environment and driving forward progress towards PetSmart’s IAM strategy and vision. This individual will architect, develop, and implement scalable, business-aligned IAM solutions, ensuring security enables rather than hinders business operations. Beyond technical expertise, this role demands strong collaboration and negotiation skills to balance security, user experience, and business agility. The Sr. Security Engineer will serve as a primary advisor to business and IT partners, influencing decision-making and driving IAM initiatives that create tangible business value. This role requires innovation, forward-thinking problem-solving, and the ability to proactively anticipate security challenges, ensuring IAM remains a strategic enabler for PetSmart. The Sr. Security Engineer will also guide junior engineers and fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and security-first thinking across the enterprise. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Execute a long-term IAM strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with business and technology objectives. Assist in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of IAM solutions, ensuring scalability, security, and seamless user experience. Serve as a strategic advisor on IAM best practices, providing consulting, guidance, and negotiation support to business and technology stakeholders. Support IAM governance and compliance, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements such as PCI, SOX, and other industry standards. Drive innovation in identity and access management, exploring new technologies, automation, and integration opportunities. Foster collaboration across technology, security, and business teams, ensuring IAM solutions provide business value while maintaining a robust security posture. Participate in incident response efforts related to IAM, in partnership with our Incident Response team, ensuring rapid resolution and risk mitigation. Regularly assess and refine IAM policies, standards, and procedures to keep pace with evolving business needs and security threats. Stay ahead of emerging IAM trends and best practices, leveraging industry advancements to enhance PetSmart’s security capabilities. Actively engage in IAM governance discussions with leadership to align IAM investments with business priorities. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 4+ years of experience in information security, identity and access management, or equivalent technical roles. 2+ years in an IAM focused role. Proven experience in influencing stakeholders, negotiating security requirements, and driving business-aligned security solutions. General security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, SANS, or Microsoft certifications and/or IAM vendor certifications such as Okta Certified Administrator, CyberArk Sentry, or SailPoint IdentityNow Certified Engineer are a plus. QUALIFICATIONS: Technical Expertise: Deep expertise in IAM technologies, including Okta, Active Directory, LDAP, CyberArk, and SSO protocols (SAML, OAuth, etc.). Experience with IAM architecture and implementation, including user lifecycle management, authentication mechanisms, and privileged access management. Strong understanding of enterprise IT environments, including Windows, Linux, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and directory services. Experience in security automation and scripting (e.g., JavaScript, PowerShell, Python) to enhance IAM capabilities. Familiarity with security frameworks and regulatory requirements such as PCI, SOX, NIST, ISO 27000, ITIL, or COBIT. Communication and Business Acumen: Ability to clearly communicate IAM risks and solutions to executives, business leaders, and technical teams. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on long-term solutions rather than reactive fixes. Proven ability to balance security, user experience, and business agility, ensuring IAM enables business growth. Why this role?
