Sr. Series Engineer, Thermal Systems

Role Summary In this role, you will be the liaison between Thermal Systems Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering for production of Thermal/HVAC system involving compressor, HVAC, front-end module, refrigerant and coolant bundles, and fluid lines. This position will be located at our Normal, IL facility and report to the Sr. Manager, Thermal Systems Engineering Responsibilities Act as liaison among DREs (Design & Release Engineers), SDE (Supplier Development Engineering), SQE (Supplier Quality Engineering), and GAME (General Assembly & Manufacturing Engineering) for Thermal/HVAC system and cascade critical timeline and deliverables Provide on-site engineering support of thermal/HVAC production in Normal, Illinois Troubleshoot and resolve thermal system or thermal system related issues from the production line with GAME, e.g. fluid fill, touch conditions, lack of restraints, etc Work with SDE & SQE to implement quality assurance check points for prototype and production builds; escalate quality issues as appropriate Work with GAME and DREs to perform plant trial and verify design change solutions Represent Thermal Engineering in decision making on part deviation and non-conformance issues Lead thermal cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives related to assembly Drive end of line testing implementation to meet Thermal performance and safety requirements, including creation and modification of end of line testing requirements Qualifications BS and higher in engineering major, particularly Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering Minimum 3-5 years of experience at an automotive manufacturing plant, particularly for Thermal/HVAC system Knowledge of Thermal/HVAC system and components Knowledge of manufacturing process, DFMEA, PFMEA, DVP&R, APQP, DFM Proficient with 3D CAD CATIA software Understanding of GD&T, Root Cause Analysis, Statistics/Data Analysis Verbal and written communication / negotiation skills (Product to Plant / Suppliers to Product) Strong leadership and problem-solving skills with action oriented mindset and issue resolution Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical Equal Opportunity Rivian is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local fair employment practices laws.
