Sr. Software Engineer - Infrastructure & Automation, Project Kuiper
Description Project Kuiper is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join the satellite bus systems team. You will work closely with a world-class team of engineers and business leaders to architect, design, and test automation services and tools that we use to support and learn from our growing satellite constellation and ground testbed systems. We are looking for a Software Engineer to participate in all phases of software development from requirements through implementation and test to operations. In this role, you will focus on architecture, deployment, and maintenance of infrastructure and automation services for model development, simulation, & test environments. You should have deep expertise in the design, creation, management, and use of large datasets. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Key job responsibilities * Work with stakeholder, peer teams and customers to design automation services for model development, simulation, & test environments. * Develop cloud native software systems in Python, Java, or similar language utilizing AWS and other Amazon technologies. * Build and optimize data pipelines that track performance, generate insights, and support models (control systems or ML) for continuous system improvement. * Integrate data pipelines from multiple hardware sensors and other software services for different use-cases such as streaming and batch processing models. * Build and maintain robust and well-documented APIs that allow other engineers and partners to develop their own custom models, integrations, and test assertions. * Create and improve monitoring and observability tools for tracking, debugging, and learning across space & ground deployments. * Integrate, test, and validate new features on live systems, ensuring they meet stringent performance and reliability standards. * Lead technical roadmap definition, requirements & feature planning, and performance improvements. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership to the team. A day in the life As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development of automation services to support simulation model development, algorithm design, and test verification needs for the Kuiper satellite constellation. You will work with a dynamic group of engineers and collaborators across multiple technology areas to identify automation needs, design novel solutions that meet customer requirements, and write software to automate key behaviors for our simulation and test infrastructure. You will build high performance and scalable architecture to extract, process, and visualize data from constellation's space and ground assets effectively. About the team Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Basic Qualifications - 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience - 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team - Experience in building and deploying models, warehousing and building ETL pipelines Preferred Qualifications - 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent - Experience in architecture, deployment, and maintenance of models in cloud native environments Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
