The Senior Specialist, Privacy will work as a more experienced team member to assist in ensuring consistent organizational adherence with privacy/security compliance regulations associated with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Responds to internal/external privacy related inquiries. Participates in regular monitoring activities to help identify organizational privacy compliance improvement efforts. Facilitates timely internal privacy compliance mitigation review and follow-up coordination with operational leadership. Handles various internal administrative tasks including privacy related research and documentation of HIPAA matters. Assists in evaluation of Privacy related documentation, Policies & Procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures for necessary regulatory updates and continuous improvement purposes.

 

Responsibilities Take a lead role in effectively coordinating management of the Privacy Office Inbox content.Serve as a more experienced level team member and knowledgeable resource for internal/external privacy questions or concerns.Facilitate coordination (verbal and written) with applicable internal operational leadership to ensure that privacy issues, concerns or complaints from any internal/external source are appropriately mitigated.Provide follow-up correspondence (verbal and written) to applicable internal operational leadership; and review completed mitigation documentation to ensure all applicable corrective actions (including both operational/privacy action items) associated with the privacy/security matter are addressed/documented.Research, analyze, maintain understanding of state and federal privacy/security laws and regulations; and work with Privacy Office management to ensure that necessary updates to applicable policies and procedures are made when new laws/regulations are implemented.Consult with and/or provide privacy related feedback to organizational departments/staff to help enforce privacy policies/procedure compliance within the organization. Consult with Risk/Legal and/or other applicable Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) when necessary to help address a privacy/security matter.Assist in internal strategic planning activities for the Privacy Office (i.e. annual and ad hoc privacy policies/procedures/SOP’s/educational training material review, and trending/monitoring/auditing for privacy compliance educational opportunity identification).Support internal Privacy audits/assessments of internal departments and processes; and tracking/management of Business Associate related action items.Manage and retain HIPAA and other required documentation effectively both in electronic and database files with strict confidentiality.Communicate in a professional business manner via all internal and external verbal/written correspondence (i.e. phone discussions, email, letters, etc.).Take a lead role in maintaining a Knowledge Repository for the Privacy team.Provide (or assist in providing) Privacy presentations to operational leadership for continuing education purposes. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent education and
experience.Bachelor's in health administration, policy, or related discipline and/or paralegal degree preferredIn lieu of higher education, the ratio is 1:1 meaning one year of college equals one year of work
experience and vice-versa.HCCA or IAPP certification preferred.Customarily has at least three years of experience in healthcare/occupational healthcare, privacy
compliance and/or operations.
