One of our most challenging new fields is Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA), which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems. The Systems Engineering Integration & Test (SEIT) department is seeking a Sr. Staff Mission Verification & Validation Lead Engineer to join our team and develop these technologies into high-performance computing systems that solve an assortment of unique mission needs. You’ll work in a fast-paced team environment alongside physicists, design engineers, and superconducting foundry engineers to make these technologies a reality.

Role and Responsibilities: 

The Mission Verification & Validation Engineer will be responsible working with SMEs from across multiple related programs to develop verification and validation strategies at appropriate levels that suit each program while building up to a unified system-of-systems verification and validation strategy. Other responsibilities will include: 

Work with customers and stakeholders to capture criteria for system-of-systems verification and validation plans

Develop and implement verification and validation plans/procedures and coordinate plans and activities with the overall Program Test Plan 

Coordinate with other program personnel to develop the system transition and logistics/support plans 

Candidates will not only have significant Systems Engineering and management experience, but also possess technical breadth and experience in multiple mission areas, program phases, and systems engineering processes 

Develop and improve qualification of system and demonstrator test procedures 

Develop test and verification strategies that help minimize program cost and technical risk 

Define test and verification methods, events, and constraints for all requirements; develop and manage the overall Mission System Test Plan 

Coordinate with integration & test (I&T) efforts to ensure that the overall I&T program will adequately confirm requirement compliance 

Design and model validation approaches to ensure the system fulfills its operational objectives and stake-holder requirements in its intended operational setting 

Work with customer and program leadership to coordinate, schedule, and ensure readiness to perform mission test activities 

Execute test verification and analyze results against established criteria to determine if the system being examined is compliant 

Utilize systems engineering database tools and software to manage verification and validation results and artifacts, including reports and baseline documentation   

Support final system sell-off of the completed verification and validation program to the customer

Lead by example and be willing to mentor, coach, train, guide, direct, and advise teammates 

Thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels 

Provide debug and testing input for feature improvements to next generation designs 

This position is contingent upon clearance.  

This position will serve on-site in Linthicum/ Annapolis Junction, MD. 

 

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Staff Mission Verification & Validation Lead Engineer: 

Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 14 years of experience, a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 12 years of experience or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 10 years of experience

Demonstrated 5+ years verification, validation, integration and test experience, specific to test design/execution & test equipment design and development 

Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and practices 

Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering for requirements and architecture management (Cameo Systems Modeler preferred) 

Experience in mission operations, requirements management, system architecture development, and CONOPs 

Demonstrated experience with the full product life cycle (requirements, design, implementation, and test)  

Experience designing and executing experiments in support of closed loop dynamics tests, inertial performance testing, and sub-system qualification 

Experience developing detailed test plans 

This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen

Current active DoD TS/SCI with poly clearance per business requirements.

Preferred Qualifications for Sr. Staff Mission Verification & Validation Lead Engineer: 

Advanced Degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical fields 

Experience working on large scale systems-of-systems programs  

Experience in a technical lead role 

Multi-Disciplinary Engineering exposure (Software, Hardware, Electrical) and strong ability to communicate cross functionally 

Experience in “selling” off requirements to ensure that the design and implementation are compliant with requirements and expected use cases 

Demonstrated ability to be an overall system/big picture thinker 

Demonstrated experience with the full product life cycle (requirements, design, implementation, and test)  

In depth experience with Verification Description and Requirements Activity development and implementation 

Proven ability to adapt quickly, solve problems, resolve conflict, lead in dynamic environments with frequent change, and interface directly with high level customers and senior/executive company leadership

Salary Range: $179,600.00 - $282,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
