Position Title: Sr. Substation Automation and Protection Engineer
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 40 Hours/ Week
Summary of Duties: Design, implement, and maintain protective relay systems and associated equipment for power systems. Prepare (FAT & SAT) Factory & Site Acceptance Test procedures for protection systems projects. Prepare Test Set (Omicron, Doble, etc...) routines for various protection applications. Configure and test relays for protection and controls schemes of substations systems. Collaborate with a team of professionals to develop protection schemes that meet industry standards and customer requirements. Be a technical leader in projects or lead other team members in project activities. Provide customer interfaces, including troubleshooting and commissioning support. Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, including design, implementation, and commissioning phases. Approximately 75% travel required National and International (Germany and Mexico.)
Qualifications: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field and six (6) years’ experience in the job offered or as Controls Engineer, Commissioning Engineer, or an acceptable alternate occupation. The employer will alternatively accept a Master's degree or foreign equivalent and four (4) years’ experience. Position requires experience with the following: Ability to read and fully understand DC and AC schematics, three- and one-line diagrams for Medium and/or High Voltage substations systems; Experience with Siemens, GE, SEL or ABB relay products and associated software; experience with Medium Voltage Protection (e.g.: Overcurrent / Over-Undervoltage, Transformer Differential, Motor Protection, High and Low Impedance Busbar Differential, Generator Protection, MV transfer schemes and reverse interlocking schemes); experience with Communication Network Technologies, including Design, Configuration, and troubleshooting of ethernet switches for protection applications such as IEC-61850 GOOSE applications. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience and skills deemed to be equivalent to a U.S. degree, as determined by a reputable credentials evaluation service.
