Sr. Substation P&C Design Engineer

We are seeking a motivated Senior Design Engineer with 3–5 years of experience in Substation Protection and Controls to support the design, development, and implementation of electrical protection and control systems. The ideal candidate will contribute to the success of substation projects by producing high-quality designs, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Develop detailed protection and control (P&C) designs, including single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.

Specify and program protective relays for applications such as differential, overcurrent, and distance protection. Create detailed schematics for AC/DC station service, relay panels, and SCADA system integration.

Design and support the implementation of SCADA systems, including RTUs, HMIs, and communication protocols (DNP3, IEC 61850, Modbus).

Coordinate protection schemes with utilities and internal teams to ensure compatibility and compliance.

Prepare technical reports, specifications, and construction packages. Support relay coordination studies, fault current analysis, and arc flash studies.

Work closely with project managers and clients to ensure project deliverables meet deadlines and quality standards. Assist in commissioning support, field reviews, and troubleshooting of P&C systems.

Ensure designs align with industry standards, including IEEE, ANSI, and regional utility standards. Stay informed about new developments in P&C technologies.

Required Qualifications:  

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field. 3–5 years of experience in substation protection and control engineering. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred; Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is a plus.

Technical Skills:  

Familiarity with protective relaying for high-voltage and medium-voltage systems. Experience with engineering software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Aspen, or ETAP. Knowledge of relay coordination studies and SCADA systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with renewable energy integration and battery energy storage systems (BESS). Exposure to substation automation systems and IEC 61850. Experience working with utilities, cooperatives, or independent power producers.
