Sr. Systems Engineer - Cloud Platforms Infrastructure - Automation

Job Summary
Performs high level systems and infrastructure functions, including planning and installing cloud resources to include mid-tier, server, storage, backup, and networks. Participates in and often leads the development of infrastructure design based on policies and company architectural direction. Investigates and coordinates the resolution of complex service problems across functions. Prepares and maintains operational documentation and standards. Maintains an operating system standard configuration and automation to apply that configuration uniformly across the enterprise. Develops Infrastructure as Code and Configuration as Code to be used to build and maintain infrastructure and application resources.


Primary Activities and Responsibilities

Plans and implements service request work and has a significant role in the delegation of responsibilities. Works under broad direction. Work is often self-initiated. Is fully accountable for meeting allocated technical objectives. Establishes milestones for project related work and makes decisions which impact the success of projects and team objectives. Analyzes, designs, plans, executes and evaluates work to time, cost, and quality targets. Investigates and resolves complex problems requiring an understanding of the relationship between own specialism and wider customer /organizational requirements. Influences organization, customers, suppliers, partners and peers on the contribution of his own specialism. Performs an extensive range of complex technical or professional work activities. Undertakes work which requires the application of fundamental IT principles in a wide and often unpredictable range of contexts. Maintains an awareness of developments in the industry. Takes initiative to keep skills up to date. Mentors colleagues and shares knowledge across the technology organization.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree 5 or more years of experience in Information Systems/Technology

Equivalent Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED 10 or more years of experience in Information Systems/Technology

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree 10 or more years of supervisory experience in Transportation Operations, Information Systems/Technology, or Logistics Microsoft Azure Administrator AZ-104 Certification Engineer level certification of enterprise Linux distribution (RedHat Certified Engineer or similar) Engineer level certification of enterprise Windows Server (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer or similar)

 

Knowledge and Skills

Experience administering Linux systems using CLI tools to configure filesystems, NFS mounts, CRON jobs, permissions, syslog, etc. Enterprise scale configuration management using idempotent tools such as Ansible Tower, AWX, and Ansible Automation Platform. Experience deploying and maintaining Enterprise Container Orchestration platforms such as OpenShift, Rancher, EKS, and GKE. Expertise in scripting with PowerShell, Java, and leveraging APIs to create automation Proven ability to communicate effectively, formally and informally, orally and in writing, to both technical and non-technical audiences Ability to rapidly absorb and understand relevance of new technical information to the business, and demonstrate creativity and innovation in applying solutions Proven ability to demonstrate leadership within team and facilitate collaboration between stakeholders Ability to analyze requirements and offer options for continuous improvements Familiarity with tools to help troubleshoot network issues Familiarity with Switching, Routing, and Load Balancing network devices. Strong understanding of host based IP stack and ethernet interface configuration. Working knowledge of administration, capacity planning, and forecasting for enterprise and cloud scale virtual infrastructure. Demonstrated ability to assess and evaluate risk and use an analytical and systematic approach to problem solving Configuration management using tools such as RedHat Satellite Server, RedHat Insights, and SUSE Manager. Familiarity with L2/L3 LAN/WAN network protocols such as STP, VTP, and TCP/IP.
