Nationwide is seeking a Distinguished Engineer that will focus on driving Artificial Intelligence advancement across the Enterprise. This role will be our senior most software engineer in the AI space and will be accountable for engineering solutions, developing patterns, testing products and frameworks, and uplifting other engineers. Nationwide is investing significantly in Generative AI and this role will be a key enabler as we begin to scale solutions. Hands-on experience with various Generative AI platforms like AWS Bedrock is required. A strong background in cloud and data is also foundational.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Provides thought leadership across enterprise with deep technical expertise in one or more domains.
Collaborates on driving execution of technical roadmaps to accelerate optimal standards in engineering vision and strategy.
Offers technical leadership in the development of products and technology solutions to enable business strategies.
Maintains a deep and broad knowledge and understanding of current and emerging technologies used to deliver strategic outcomes.
Maintains deep hands on expertise across technical domain.
Works across functional teams and businesses to deliver impactful projects involving multiple disciplines.
Creates clarity of action to tackle big challenges with often vaguely defined objectives.
Serves as role model and mentor for engineers, architects, and other technology professionals to develop force multiplication of talent while raising the bar on talent attraction and retention.
Acts as an advocate/public speaker in the promotion of internal/external events, conferences, user groups, hackathons to help drive awareness and improvements.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to AVP or higher Technology Leader.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, mathematics, engineering, or related field is strongly preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: Technology certifications or designation are not required, but encouraged (i.e.: AWS, Azure, scripting and development languages, delivery methods, security).
Experience: Ten or more years of expertise in leading-edge theories, techniques and/or technologies within a function or discipline. Proven experience contributing to the overall strategic vision and execution of one or more business strategies. Experience as a recognized, sought-after thought leader and expert for one or more domains/disciplines.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Ability to make decisions and recommendations. Aptitude to influence, build partnerships and set priorities. Excellent communication. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
