About the Role We are seeking a customer-obsessed Sr. Technical Writer with experience designing, delivering, and maintaining documentation for tech and non-tech audiences. You will own the creation of documentation and material using a variety of authoring tools and technologies. You will establish, maintain, and optimize the site architecture and standards to support user access, readability, continuous improvement, evergreening, and localization. You will act as an internal and external ambassador for Amazon, AHS, and ILT, role modeling Amazon Leadership Principles. They are able to collaborate effectively with the engineering team and key user groups to produce effective and trusted documentation libraries. Key job responsibilities - Create, launch, evergreen, and optimize documentation libraries using a variety of authoring/ distribution tools and technology. - Establish and implement site-wide information architecture to support easy access, navigation, readability, scaling, and evergreening. - Equip contributors to document sites to comply with info architecture and documentation/writing standards. - Manage multiple complex documentation tasks and projects with little or no oversight. - Work effectively within a learning team to support varying workloads and business needs. - Collaborate effectively with tech and non-tech audiences to output trusted documentation libraries. - Communicate clearly and effectively to a wide range of target audiences, including engineering, technical operations, and development teams. - Assist engineers in drafting user-facing content. - Interpret business process, process narrative, and configured systems to determine the simplest set of instructions for completing a specific task. - Create, edit, and validate procedural instruction documentation. - Lead and/or participate in process and system walk throughs, including conducting technical reviews of documentation to ensure accuracy - Innovate to improve the user experience and documentation standards. - Build and maintain productive, trust-based relationships with internal and external organizations and stakeholders, cross-functional team members, sponsors, learners, and colleagues. Basic Qualifications - Degree or certification in a relevant technical field or equivalent experience. - A minimum of 5 years in a technical writer or in a programming role with high-quality written work artifacts. Preferred Qualifications - Experience designing and delivering developer-oriented documentation. - Experience designing and delivering user (non-developer) documentation. - Experience establishing and maintaining information architecture, including cloud storage technologies. - Experience using content publishing tools to write, format, manage, and publish technical and non-technical content. - Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements. - Proven ability to collaborate and earn trust with internal and external stakeholders, team members, learner groups, cross-functional business partners. - Proven ability to learn and apply new technology. - Proven ability to work effectively in high-change working environment. - Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership. - High attention to detail. - Proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously. - Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to use and communicate hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and develop business cases. - Smartsheet proficiency. - Six Sigma, Kaizen, Agile, or other Process Improvement methodologies. The base pay for this position ranges from $96,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $195,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
