ResponsibilitiesWe have an opportunity for a Senior Underwriter to join our Berkley Accident and Health (BAH) team! Reporting to our AVP, Underwriting (Specialty Accident Group - travel accident, business travel, etc.). In addition to traditional A&H products, we offer customized, innovative solutions for niche groups and individuals that have specific needs. Our business model and structure are optimized for speed and agility, solely focused on bringing the best products and customer experience to the A&H marketplace and creating growth opportunities for our business partners. This role can be based in our offices in either: New York City (Manahttan), or Hamilton, NJ

Key functions include but are not limited to:
Directly accountable for the Specialty Accident underwriting results for the Northeast region, including new business production, account retention, underwriting margin and book profitability targetsMaintain high standards for underwriting, including risk selection, pricing performance, and account documentationEnsure compliance with underwriting best practices and guidelines, ensuring they are implemented appropriately and consistently across the book of businessPartner with Regional Sales Manager to:develop new distribution relationships in the Northeast regiondevelop and execute regional territory plan in order to establish and meet sales and underwriting goalsmanage workflow between underwriting and distribution to meet service level expectations, market expectations and brand promiseDeliver best-in-market service to our distribution partners without sacrificing profitabilityProvide insight into continued development of automated and integrated underwriting administrative platformDevelop knowledge of and comfort with the full suite of A&H products,able to represent them all in your marketplaceWork on special projects as assigned
Qualifications Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experienceMinimum 5+ years of Accident & Health (A&H) underwriting experience, participant accident and corporate accident preferred, but not requiredAn analytical mind; you love to dive into the details of an account in order to craft pricing and coverage that meet underwriting guidelines, profitability models and customer needsIncredible empathy and understanding of the needs of our customers, both insureds and their agents alike; you will be an excellent, pro-active advocate for Berkley A&H customers and are passionate about their brand experienceExceptional oral and written communication skills; your communication style is flexible to the situation; you communicate clearly and with a purposeCalm under pressure; you have excellent organizational skills, integrity, and great follow-through on tasksYou have a strong sense of accountability, fun and adventureA strong customer service bias; you want to get to yes; you are known for your super responsiveness; you can say no and preserve your relationshipsNatural curiosity; you love learning how things work and you are always looking for innovative improvementsProficiency with the Microsoft suite of products and policy management and underwriting systems Additional Company Details We do not accept any unsolicited resumes from external recruiting firms.
The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees including:
• Base Salary Range: $105,000 - $125,000
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus
• Benefits include: Health, dental, vision, dental, life, disability, wellness, paid time off, 401(k) and profit-sharing plans
The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
