Job Summary:
This individual will provide a full range of insured and client level underwriting and administrative support, analyzing risks for Program Based business and making decisions based on the Programs Underwriting policies, guidelines and procedures. The underwriter takes a leadership role in the underwriting operations to better serve Programs client base. Requiring exceptional decision making, analytical and customer service skills, the underwriter shall expedite turnaround of submissions and inquiries. The position requires a minimum of 5 years underwriting experience. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary responsibility satisfactorily. Key Responsibilities
· Risk Assessment: Analyze and evaluate new and renewal commercial insurance applications, identifying potential risks and determining appropriate terms and conditions.
· Decision-Making: Approve or decline risks within designated authority levels while maintaining company underwriting standards.
· Portfolio Management: Manage a book of business, ensuring profitability and growth targets are met.
· Collaboration: Work closely with agents, brokers, and internal teams to provide excellent customer service and develop customized solutions for clients.
· Market Analysis: Monitor industry trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes to ensure the portfolio remains competitive and compliant.
· Leadership: Mentor and support junior underwriters, sharing expertise and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
· Documentation: Maintain accurate records and underwriting documentation in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
· Assist Program Managers in new program development by providing valuable insight within their identified area of expertise.
Qualifications and Skills
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, or a related field. Professional certifications such as CPCU, ARM, or AU are highly desirable.
· Experience: Minimum of 5–7 years of commercial underwriting experience, with a strong track record in handling complex accounts.
· Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of underwriting principles, risk analysis, and commercial insurance products.
· Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess risks and make informed decisions.
· Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with brokers and clients.
· Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail in evaluating applications and preparing documentation.
· Tech Savvy: Proficiency in underwriting software and MS Office Suite.
