PURPOSE:
To prepare patterns for assembly and to prepare soluble cores for pattern molding; wax welds multiple components using fixtures to maintain dimensional conformity; repairs wax patterns and soluble cores in accordance with quality standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Pattern Finishing
Objective: to assemble pattern components and/or make dimensional alterations to patterns.
Typical Activities:
Reads tech cards and engineering instructions.Assembles wax components into visually and dimensionally acceptable patterns; may use specialized fixturing.Modifies patterns or soluble cores using various hand tools and wax materials.Inspects modifications with special gauges and other measuring devises.Occasionally inserts ceramic cores in wax patterns and maintains dimensional integrity (TBO only).Repair/Restoration
Objective: to fix broken or damaged patterns and soluble cores and restore to dimensionally acceptable condition.
Typical Activities:
Replaces broken features by wax welding fragments or by using other wax supplies to reconstruct missing areas.Fills voids and reforms damaged contours by attaching and shaping stock wax.Cleaning
Objective: to work patterns and soluble core surfaces to meet visual inspection criteria.
Typical Activities:
Removes flash, mismatch and other surface positives using a variety of hand tools and materials.Fills or patches negatives using paint wax, melted stock wax, hot pencils and other tools and materials.Completes dimensional integrity restoration and plugging of holes per tech cards.Inspects work for compliance with quality standards.Serialization
Objective: to identify patterns with specified serial pads and numbers.
Typical Activities:
Places sticky wax pads or stamps specified serial numbers directly into patterns, per tech cardsSafety
Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.
Typical Activities:
Adheres to plant and department safety rules.Safely operates all equipment and tools.Identifies and reports safety problems.PPE Requirements:
Safety Glasses and Steel Toe Shoes – all timesGloves, Long sleeves, Goggles and Mask – optional for soluble cleaningMaintains accurate records of work performed.Trains less skilled personnel as assigned.Performs other tasks as directed.TRAINING:

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
