What You'll Do

Oversee and perform various NDA measurements throughout the Y-12 Complex. These measurements include quantitative measurements, inventory verification/confirmation measurements, non-Special Nuclear Material measurements/inspections, and special anomaly resolution measurements, using sodium iodide, lanthanum bromide, and high purity germanium NDA systems. Interface with other Y-12 measurement groups to review measurement techniques and applications and manage the NMC&A Holdup program. Also, responsible for researching and implementing new NDA technology.

Serve as technical expert to production personnel on NMC&A measurement issues. This position will focus on the measurement activities that impact the control and accountability of nuclear materials. Assist in developing plans for receipt verification and accountability measurements. Participate in resolving shipper/receiver issues, as needed. Review and approve shipper/receiver measurement results for NMC&A.

Provide input to the development and revision of NMC&A procedures to comply with DOE Orders and NNSA requirements. Review procedures, work instructions, and job performance aids for various production areas and organizations in the Y-12 Complex to ensure compliance with NMC&A requirements.
This position is a technical support position which requires considerable time in various nuclear production areas within the Y-12 Complex. The individual in this position will serve as an NMC&A program presence in the production areas and must often provide guidance and make recommendations covering the entire spectrum of NMC&A and Safeguards and Security requirements. Immediate decisions on behalf of NMC&A pertaining to measurement results or nuclear material safeguards may be required to ensure protection of Y-12 assets.

B.S. degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or other technical discipline plus 4 or more years of experience in a wide variety of technical assignments is preferred. Preferred experience in fi eld NDA measurements with sodium iodide and high purity germanium systems. Experience with other crystals such as cadmium zinc telluride or lanthanum bromide is desirable. Experience with Genie 2000, S505 QA, and other Canberra software is highly desirable.

Must be able to understand models, perform measurements, and do quantitative and qualitative analysis of NDA data. Holdup measurement experience is highly desirable. NMC&A and Safeguards and Security experience is highly desirable. Good analytical and problem-solving skills are a must. Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills required. Excellent oral and written communications skills required.

The job level/title will be determined based on the education/experience of the selected incumbent. Requires a Q clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required. Position will require entry into Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
