JOB DESCRIPTION

Club Objectives

To Maximize Potential

To strive to develop a nationally competitive youth development program with an  emphasis on Youth National Team selections, NCAA college placements and the  creation of future professionals.

To emphasize the development of the person as well as the player, priding  ourselves on the quality of the youth soccer experience

Staff Coach: Expectations

Reports to;  Executive Director,  Technical Director, Zone/Program Director

Training Sessions:

Diligently plan practices that are age and stage of development appropriate. Sessions  should develop each individual's capacity to execute their functional role and each team's  capability to execute our game model.

Are structured in a way that follows the club's practice requirements (Activation Phase,  Modified Play, Game Play, Free Play - Opposition, Decision Making, Competition,  Direction, Goals) with consideration taken towards tactical periodization for u12 + age  groups.

Are prepared for, structured and delivered in a way where intensity and player  engagement are witnessed throughout.

Are delivered using a variety of coaching behaviors and intervention strategies that try  and ensure players become capable of independently and collectively solving problems.

Are reflected upon in order to ensure both players and coaches can continue to be  provided with the best learning and development experience possible.

Are recorded in order to understand what scheme of work has been emphasized and  covered to provide support for the next staff coach working with the group as well as  ensure the developmental needs at each age group/level are met.

Games:

Are prepared for fully with lineups, likely rotations, substitutions (GA/ECNL), alternate  tactics and objectives (ATT or DEF) clearly established prior to the game. Your Duktig  book can/should be used to help here.

Are played in a way that demonstrates our game model. Football will always be the  priority and MUST be encouraged always.

Learning to compete, with both players and coaches adapting tactical decisions to try and  achieve success / remain competitive in games is also critical.

Are coached but also observed. Find the balance. Tactical adjustments and adaptations  are important at every level and making notes / talking to your substitutes will help you  maximize your ability to effectively provide feedback and make changes within games.

Coaches should attempt to not provide direct instruction to the player on the ball and  instead focus their attention on the structure of the team in terms of support (attack) and  organization (defending) off the ball.

Feedback or instruction is provided with meaning or an explanation of why attached - not  just cheerleading.

Coaches must remember they are always representing the club and while frustrations  occur (especially with officials) this should never become a confrontation or altercation. Maintaining a calm and rationale mind is important.

All players are deserving of a positive mindset and your best effort- try not to let  frustrations from previous games carry over and provide every team regardless of level  with your best effort

Administration:

All administrative duties are carefully and dutifully handled in a timely manner to ensure  the quality of our communication and organization is of the highest order.

Player Carding, Rostering, Tournament / State Cup / League applications, Game  Scheduling are fulfilled promptly

Well thought out, weekly recap emails are sent to all teams reflecting on weekend  performances and the schedule / scheme of learning for the upcoming week

Detailed IDP's (Fall) and Player evaluations (Winter) are conducted and produced with  each player.

Any tasks (operational or development based) requested by senior management are  completed in a timely manner.

During the college recruitment ages, coaches are expected to support their players and  families in the entirety of the college application process. Support is also provided by  Zone 2 Director/s and TD but coaches must take the lead in engaging in conversations

Meet with prospective schools and guiding players accordingly. Coaches are expected to  educate themselves on this environment (with TD always available to answer questions) so that their guidance can be both credible and helpful.

During all tryout seasons, coaches are expected to work diligently towards achieving all  team formation targets. Financial conversations MUST go through TD but coaches are  expected to be committed to ensuring their roster targets are met from both a quality and  quantity perspective (considering both the importance of retaining our existing best and  brightest and also attracting new players of quality). Part of this process requires  engaging in phone calls, in person conversations and networking to ensure the best  quality players are made available to us.

General:

Uphold the playing and training philosophy, mission, vision and operational values of the  club to all others at all times.

Commit to being the best coach and colleague possible. Be an example for your players  to follow and a coach they will remember for all the right reasons. Learn about the  multidisciplinary aspects of soccer and coaching. Upskill. Demonstrate a growth mindset.  Be a lifelong learner.

Be self-reliant, highly motivated, enthusiastic about your job and a team player willing to  lend a hand when it is needed due to any unforeseen coverage issues.
