Position Summary: 

We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join our finance team. As a Staff Accountant, you will support the financial operations of the company to ensure the company's daily accounting functions are accurate, timely, and consistent. The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting contract compliance, and assisting with month-end and year-end close processes. This position requires a strong understanding of government contracting regulations, including Cost Accounting Standards (CAS). The Staff Accountant will collaborate with internal teams to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures specific to government contracts.

Tasks include utilizing  Unanet, a Government Contracting industry ERP, to process transactions related to accounts payable and receivable, as well as maintaining vendor and customer financial records and reconciling bank statements. 

In this role, you will work closely with the Senior Staff Accountant and Director of Finance to support under their direction the daily financial tasks assigned to you.  

Successful candidates for this position will have a strong understanding of the Government Contracting Industry and the unique challenges and requirements of accounting, including SCA. In addition, you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with internal team members to ensure financial accuracy across the organization.

Responsibilities: 

Daily entry of key data of financial transactions in accounting softwareMonthly creation of accounts receivable invoicesMaintain accounts receivable records and supporting documentationRegular review and entry of payable invoices, confirming validity of the amount due, and gathering appropriate approval signaturesMaintain accounts payable records and supporting documentationProvide accounting and clerical support to the accounting departmentReconcile bank accounts using accounting softwareProvide assistance and support to the company’s internal team members Inform management and compile reports/summaries on activity areasResearch, track, and report to management accounting or documentation problems and discrepanciesFunction by always following the established standards, procedures, and applicable lawsContinuous pursuit of learning to expand job knowledge

 

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required: 

Minimum of associate’s degree in accounting, bachelor’s is a plusProficient with Unanet GovCon ERP accounting software (and government invoicing platforms Proven accounting experience, preferably specialized in Accounts receivable and Accounts payable Knowledge of bookkeeping and basic accounting proceduresCompetency in MS Office, with hands-on Excel experienceProficient in the use of Microsoft Suite; SharePoint and TeamsSkilled with technology and an understanding of accounting softwareAccuracy and attention to detailAptitude for numbersAbility to perform filing and record-keeping tasksData entry and word processing skillsWell-organized and detail-orientedExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsHighly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlinesFlexibility related to work hours around monthly accounting closing end cycle as required
