JOB SUMMARY

The Temporary Staff Accountant is responsible for monitoring corporate financial accounting and fiscal activity. Duties include traditional general accounting duties and responsibilities including completion of complex analysis of financial accounting and budgeting information, maintenance of general ledger and chart of accounts, balance sheet account analysis, production and analysis of periodic financial statements, monitoring of all general accounting activities, fiscal compliance, preparation for and support of financial and OMB audits, preparation of timely bank reconciliations, conducting internal audits as assigned, coordination of daily activities for junior level accountants, preparing spread sheets and reports, completing special assignments, and attending to other accounting duties as assigned. The Temporary Staff Accountant works with other accounting personnel to ensure accurate data collection, review and verification and ensures compliance with fair accounting standards.

Analyzes and reconciles various balance sheet and income statement account information on a regular basisMonitors the accounting processes throughout the corporationResponsible for financial and OMB audit preparation, compliance, and supportRegularly interfaces with Departments, Divisions, and other accounting personnel to stay fully informed regarding financial and accounting information Completes audit work papers and memoranda by documenting audit tests and findingsCommunicates audit progress and findings by providing information in status meetings; highlighting unresolved issues; reviewing working papers; preparing final audit reportsLead, maintain, and develop efficiencies for processes and proceduresImproves protection by recommending changes in management monitoring, assessment, and motivational practices, in the internal control structure, and in operating processes, identifying root causesSupports external auditors by coordinating information requirementsProvides financial control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trendsResponsible for fiscal audit compliance and assisting in the preparation of audit responsesResponsible for preparing and processing adjusting journal entries when necessaryCreates templates and spreadsheets as necessary to facilitate data collection and accurate data presentationResponsible for fiscal audit compliance and assisting in the preparation of audit responsesDevelops and maintains effective liaison with assigned contract monitor and Division/Program personnelReconciles transactions by comparing and correcting dataComply with all MHS and program rules, policies and procedures including HIPAA standards.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of 3 years of auditing and/or accounting experienceA Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting preferred. Advanced MS Excel skills, including experience with lookup functions, pivot tables, and macrosIntermediate knowledge of Accounting Information Systems, preferably NetsuiteAdvanced MS Windows-based operating system skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsVery organized, with ability to manage various subsequent projects in a fast-paced environmentFundamental knowledge of GAAP and the main elements and drivers of the income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flowsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamStrong attention to detail and ability to identify and solve problems
