Staff Accountant
Southern Veterinary Partners (SVP) is a regional network of animal hospitals with the common goal of providing the highest quality veterinary care to companion animals. SVP currently owns over 400 locations around the country, is acquiring 7+ new locations per month and is sponsored by a leading private equity team. SVP has a need for a Staff Accountant to join our rapidly growing team in Birmingham, AL. This role will be an integral part of the accounting team and will include accounting for and preparation of reconciliations for the balance sheet and classification of the income statement, routine weekly/bi-weekly tasks and management of taxes and filings for our locations. The person in this role will become an expert in accounting matters for SVP and its operations. This role will be an integral part of the monthly financial statement preparation process and opportunity to work on other ad hoc projects as part of a growing Company. Responsibilities: Be knowledgeable of SVP’s operations and gain an understanding of transaction flow from initiation to reporting in the general ledger. Prepare and review accurate journal entries for the income statement and balance sheet, within prescribed time schedules and guidelines. Prepare account reconciliations for the balance sheet and prepare related income statement evaluation e.g. trend and variance analysis. Accurately account for and review accounting classification of the income statement with excellent attention to detail. Summarize, manipulate, and present data in a concise and meaningful manner. Have a current knowledge of US GAAP accounting standards and comprehend implications to SVP. Prepare and facilitate information between veterinary hospitals and to management as required. Maintain strict adherence to internal controls over financial reporting. Manage project requests with an innovative approach and superior attention to detail. Maintain a mindset of continuous improvement with the goal of gaining efficiencies and sophistication for the accounting function as well as SVP as an organization. Display excellent organization skills with the ability to track multiple tasks simultaneously. Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting or a related field 1 + years’ experience in accounting, audit or other relevant professional capacity preferred but not required Experience working in retail or healthcare industry preferred Blackline experience preferred but not required Proficient at working in accounting software Advanced Excel Skills and working with large amounts of data Outstanding presentation, reporting, and communication skills Optimize efficiency and solution-oriented attitude Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives with little to no supervision Benefits Work with an organization recognized as #1 in Healthcare by Newsweek’s Most Loved Workplaces in 2024.
