POSITION: Staff Accountant

ASM, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for a Staff Accountant at the ASM Richmond – responsible for the Dominion Energy Center, Altria Theater and Bon Secours Training Center. The Staff Accountant performs duties directly related to accounting for food and beverage, payroll, accounts receivable and payable, as well as any duties assigned by the Senior Accounting Manager and/or Director of Facility Accounting.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support facility goals and priorities relating to financial management, budget, accounting, purchasing, and/or payroll in compliance with State and Federal law, and policies and procedures.Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements.Prepare and record various journal entries and accruals through the general ledger.Review, process and record banking activities (i.e. prepare deposits, record cash receipts and bank fees, etc.).Prepare various reports and analysis as needed for management.Responsible for W9 collection and 1099 Preparation. Obtain updated Form W-9's, update vendor records and annually prepare Forms 1096 and 1099.Monthly reconciliations of various general ledger accounts including cash, receivables, fixed assets, intercompany, payables etc. Responsible for accounts receivable and accounts payablePerform accounting and clerical functions to support supervisorsProcess facility biweekly payroll, prepare payroll adjustments, and manual checks through ADPPrepares and performs or assists with event settlementsFinancial reporting responsibilities for Ancillary Income (Food & Beverage, Merchandise and Parking). Reconciles sales for Concessions and Catering after each event, creates Cash Receipts Journals, and generates invoices.All other duties as assigned.Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises part time employees in the Finance Department, if any. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ASM's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Extensive knowledge of financial and cost accountingExperience with food and beverage preferred, especially inventoryExcellent math skills and attention to detail; high aptitude for figuresEffective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills requiredAbility to interact with all levels of staff including management and clientsEffective Supervisory SkillsAbility to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system/financial application.Ability to work independently and complete duties and projects with minimal supervision.Ability to accurately work under pressure in meeting deadlines.Education and/or Experience
Preferred B.S. in Accounting, Business, Finance or Sports Management and a minimum of one year experience in an arena environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum 2-3 years of public or private accounting with general ledger accounting experience.Must have considerable knowledge of accounting principles (i.e., journal entries, debits, credits, etc.) and accounting functions with a high aptitude for figures.Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have extensive knowledge of accounting software, spreadsheet and word processing software. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ability to learn required business systems.
